I've known that PlaneShift was based on the "Crystal Space 3D" engine for a while, which is Open Source, but after reading this and this threads, it turns out that the additions made to the engine by the PlaneShift team aren't actually "Open Source" at all. That means the only Open Source part of the game wasn't even made by Atomic Blue or the PlaneShift team. Apparently, anyone trying to use this game's engine is called a "thief" by Luca Pancallo. Isn't it False Advertising when the game is being promoted as an "Open Source Game" all over the internet by its project leader? Double standards, again.

...places like MMORPG.com, LinuxGameTome, etc.

If players are mistreated, then they should seek more independent (from this game) places on the internet to post about their experiences. According to many complaints here, it sounds like this is just the case.

Bugs are to be reported in the Bugtracker { http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php } after checking if they are already reported (and possibly closed).

No, bugs can also be posted in this forum, considering that its description clearly states:

Please direct your complaints about PS, game play, bugs, website, etc. here so we can keep up with them.

If having to play mechanic on the game bothers you, I'd suggest finding a different game as PS has always required you to fiddle with it before you can get it to halfway work right. However, if you aren't ready to give up on it, I'd suggest having IRC open when trying to run the game so you can ask for help as you encounter problems.

"If you don't like it, just turn around and leave!"

This community reminds me of a hicktown prejudice. The OP is obviously interested in participating and has used the correct forum (i.e. "Complaints Department") to make suggestions. He shouldn't have to fiddle with anything or have an IRC client open.

Point 6 - This is the failing of so many open source applications. They just don't have the UI people on board that commercial projects have. As a result the UI is built to be functional instead of intuitive. This is then forgotten about. The elves theme was made in 2005..

This isn't an open source application. The engine is open source (Crystal Space 3D) but the content isn't, therefore there aren't many volunteers willing to give up their work, which requires assigning your rights to Atomic Blue. Unless you want to limit yourself to a fanmade skin on the forums, it will never be included in the official release as an "open source" skin.

Mostly there needs to be a map that can be marked for quests (most people get fed up with trying to find their destination, and quit playing)

Exactly. Only a detailed map has been suggested multiple times before and nothing's been done. Considering that your character already has a background history in Yliakum (i.e. character creation), and that it's been inhabited and charted for quite some time, one should already have a general map that keeps adding detail. It's "realistic" to have a map of a place you've been living in, and no one should poke in the dark for NPCs or destinations that you've just been asked to contact or visit by a quest giving NPC.

As for models and animations, they are not Open Source in this game, despite PlaneShift being advertised as an "Open Source Game" on the internet, so they don't have many volunteers willing to give up their work. They've been suggested some Open Source animations / motion capture before in 2005 but no one said a thing. It's because this game would require to copyright them to Atomic Blue, which they obviously cannot do with the existing Open Source animations available for true Open Source projects.

If character development/advancement is such a wicked thing why not just get rid of the crafting system all together? Why not just make Yliakum one huge 3d chatroom.

Then they couldn't call it a "Role-Playing Game", which leads to another double standard with their "Power-Leveling" argument. Also, it wouldn't be a "huge" 3d chat room, since they barely have any players left (30-50 people online, including GMs, at peak times).

According to some discussions here, this game is supposedly trying to be realistic (e.g. "realistic crafting system"), is it not? Well, if Guards/GMs = Cops/Security, then realistically, they can sometimes be killed or jailed. If these Guards/GMs cannot be killed or jailed during a "roleplay", then what they essentially do is what people typically refer to here as "godmodding", which is not acceptable. Isn't it double standards? I'm just basing it on the same arguments that are typically accepted by the community here.

This thread is for those readers who are interested or simply curious. Feel free not to participate. Before anyone accuses me of anything I'd like to state that, all things considered, I don't know what to fully believe on the subject. However, many overzealous people tend to bring up the Mythbusters special on the "Apollo Moon Hoax" as the ultimate and final authority on the matter: "Watch the Mythbusters special, they debunked everything!!!". Ironically, it turns out that the Mythbusters got plenty of things wrong after all. The following videos are all very recent: from July 14, 2010 to October 12, 2010.

[...]How can you allege that the idea that NASA and the government would murder their own astronauts is "a particularly loathsome accusation", when in fact the CIA's General William H. Craig came up with Operation Dirty Trick: a proposal to blame John Glenn's possible death aboard Friendship 7 on the Cubans and use his death to justify all out war?

[...]During the conference I questioned Aldrin about the Dutch moon rock incident. In October 1969, during their goodwill tour, the Apollo 11 crew gave a moon rock to the then US Ambassador to the Netherlands, J. William Middendorf, who in turn presented it to former Dutch Prime Minister Willem Drees. Last year, the moon rock in question was proven to be a piece of petrified wood.
