Mac OSX Specific Issues / fog crashes the client

Hi folks and devs,

every time when there is fog in Oja or Gugro the client crashes.
This certainly happens since versinon 0.5.5 - from mid december 2010.
When the fog is over everything is fine. Rain, Snow - no problem. Outside these both cities also no problem.

I cant deactivate weather. There are nice buttons you can click on but nothing happens.

My computer is up to date, 10.5.8 - and i know that there ist already 10.6. out..


Just wanted you to inform you about this annoying bug.

and sometimes this conclusion is comlete b*ll***t.

If this game is should reach a professional level one day (the developers want to earn some money - i think they want) there has to be done a lot to the manuals that come with the downloaded package. Also the tutorial and help guide links are outdated. (i read something from 2005). Also wrong names i.e. pslaunche had a different name and stuff like that. There is a list of programm-codes you should change if you have a certain problem. All this is complicaded and confusing and if you do that, you ask yourself if this is still up to date and helps anything. (or crashes the whole computer..)

I think the game lives from a big number of players. You wont get many new players if the manuals are that useless as they are now.
Im working on manuals for indutrial products. They wont sell anything if the manuals have no correct description.
The manual has a high proportion of the final rating of that product.
A manual has to contain a version number and a date of release.

And sometimes a crash in the game turns out to be not the fault of the player or his machine the game is running on..

Not only my opinion.. hope, it helps to improove things.


btw: a player forum is not the right place to get the installation manual because of sentences like above. It was ok if the manuals were ok
but they arent and thats the thing what makes me angry about such pattern.

there is a crash and thats a difference. We have win, unix and macs and 10 players online in the average.
So if im the onlyone with that problem it says nothing atm.
(other new player log in the first time, it crashes and they never come back - super!)

Another thing: the same crash when entering gugrontid

(ill look at this for another couple of days and then i will decide)

i will tell it once more: the old version 0.5.4 did run without any uncommon error. (just the normal stuff)

now, if you all launch your brain, it is just logical that it is NOT a computer faliure, not harware and not software!
It MUST be something with the update.

weather was on, i was riding through the rain on ojard2, the background load turned off - my 3rd crash 10m in front of the gate to oja.

3rd die-back. so, now developers, its your turn.

Hi,

im certain that the problem is not on my computer.

Ive crashed at oja several times and a few minutes ago once more traveling there from hydla
So it is definitively the game. (+mac sicne i know that other people were there when i crashed)

With a short /die i made my way back to hydla. Heres everything fine.

once again the same thing. when i arrived oja - crash

i started the 2nd char, made a shorcut /die launched my first char and back to hydla.

Theres something wrong with oja. Please tell me when i can visit it again.

ok, problem solved!

i started a new char and got in contact with a GM.

The last thing before the last crash i did was to rapidly type: /die
The GM told me i were in the drm. Ok, didnt know that. Now it seems to run properly.

This might be a solution for others.

So, it was NOT my computer. I guess a freezer with something, who knows.


so, im gonna test those pterosaurs now ;)

Hi folks,

im having trouble with the new update. Ive a weak idea that it is caused by my character. Every time when it loads, it crashes after 1 second.
So I created a new character to check this and VOILA the games running.

I want my character back. How, is not my problem.
My character: Robben Agilor on the non-roleplayer-server / oja - trasok

Hey thx, a developer, great.

Hm, ive nothing special on my os. slim down libraries? like a compression, right? Some libraries have the suffix .sit but they are as they are. Yesterday ive unpacked them all for a try - was no good idea. So i went back to the original and it runs until the common crash.

The installer is quite simple: open the .dmg and drag the folder planeshift to the application folder. Nothing esle.

Maybe i should say, that the previous version 0.5.4 was running without any problems.

Since i havent changed anything on the os surface or settings the new version should run without any trouble in the same invironement, right?
The only thing ive done was to delete all files that had anything to do with planeshift before installing the new version.

A hint would be nice:
-what folders have to be where
-how can i detect slimed down libs
-how do i know if a slimed down lib is correct or isnt

I mean, i have a common MacBook with an uptodate osx 10.5.8 and no special things on it. It cant be so difficult to get this game running..
The installation manual is, by the way, too old to be true - no go (what is it 2005?) so there is no help from this side.

i wonder if ther should be a folder "userdata". i havent found one.

Hi Folks,

i have the same problem. First i had an error warning while loging in - something with sound.lib.null (or else) wouldnt load.
i have repaired the client wit ps_launch. After the last try this error warning didnt appear any more but the same thing:

it connects, i logs in, it loads, i get a short view over the scene (2 seconds) and the client crashes with something like "client static"..

i guess there is a major bug in the client for osx. it seems that they have already fixed one-two things in the client meanwhile.
but it crashes still.

its not my mac, because the machine is just a jear old and the os is on the highest level. osx 10.5.8
ive tried to quit all other apps, also the firewall, to be sure that its not the connection but it doesnt help.

im slightly irritaded that there is no information like: yes we have a problem and were working on it (or not) or else.

guess we have to wait for a working upgrade.
