General Discussion / Re: Anti-Powerleveler Idea
« on: September 22, 2007, 10:36:15 pm »
I find this all very interesting, though I have a question:
Why cater to "power-levellers" at all?  Planeshift seems to be abnormal (from my experience) in the fact that it does have common roleplay.
As it stands, there have been many suggestions that are Roleplay-oriented to replace the highly traditional system which Planeshift uses.

Reading this thread here and its depth of thought on the issue is making me consider popping in for a while, but I'll wait for some answers on Suno_Regin's thread first though.  To make life easier in the aforementioned system, I'll play a peasant.

This sounds like an experiment conducted by a university's sociology department.  A fascinating one at that.
I think while it would be fun at first, it would become gimmick-y fast.

I find it hard to think of anything other than America without all the Americans, I dont mean that as an insult to Americans, its just a cultural thing I suppose.

As for canadians, I think the accent is cute  . And the Crash Test Dummies are from there :)

Yeah, I get the impression that Canada is America without Americans.  (I somehow feel that the "English origin" countries --AU, UK, CA, US-- have a bit of a bond.)

Battlestar Galactica is filmed in Vancouver.  I hear a lot of Sci-fi is filmed there.

Let's be honest.  People who are "wanna be GM's" are probably just pissed from crashing often due to this and do not want to put up with it.  I suspect you might become a "wanna be GM" too if this were your case.

Quebec is beautiful!  I've been to Montreal and Quebec City.  (Old Quebecois buildings are definitely cooler than old American buildings.)

I also think of miles and miles (or kilometres and kilometres) of forest.  Why, might you ask?  Because I've been to the scout reserve in Haliburton, Ontario, and to get there we had to drive through miles (or kilometres and kilometres) of forest.  "Webbers" (sp?) has good burgers, btw.  Not to mention Canadian Candy is Superior to American Candy.  (I also am fascinated that Scouts Canada is apparently Co-ed.)

I learned how to do an over-zealous Canadian accent, much like my british accent.

As an American, it really depends on the logic of the speaker.  The more rational the speaker, the more likely to hold a positive or neutral opinion.  The homophobic France-bashers, however, hold Canada in a negative esteem.  I personally think Canadia is awesome. :)

I seriously hope your last sentence is sarcastic, and that you have not put that much emotion into this thread.
Trust me, the internet is not worth wasting emotion on.  ;)

Only attentive students pick up the history of English in my area, and only by chance.  That would seem to confirm the "Americans don't learn the origins of English" notion Xordan has.

I can agree to disagree with someone and yet maintain that I see their viewpoint as invalid.

Yes, I'm sticking up for Zanzi.  Kalika, that you misinterpreted this statement is unfortunate.  It basically means: (since in order for his viewpoint to be valid, the others must be invalid,) he can say "I disagree with you fellows on this issue, however I am not going to argue with you on it."  Usually arguments about belief systems are wasteful expenditures, very few people are actually listening.

edit:Generally, the non-violent emotion of civil disagreement is pity.  Playful rivalry is also accepted.  Most, however, can recognize the origin and reasons of a logical opponent for holding the idea they believe is mistaken, and respect that.  Religion is a little different.  Some believe that religion is inherently illogical, ergo their opponents are being unreasonable, etc.  Unfortunately a great number of religions require belief without any sort of empirical evidence, so I hope you can understand why a skeptic type would be cynical about the religions of others.

Do you mean the Hydlaa Law Enforcement Agency?  That guard group has been disbanded.

I celebrate the captialist Christmas because, hey, I want to give and receive gifts.  Nothing beats the look on someone's face when you picked (or made) the perfect gift.  (In general, the emotional or pragamatic value of a gift is the most important.)  If you can't give a thoughtful gift, should you be giving a gift?

Christian Christmas, well, I'm pretty much an agnostic deist, so I go through the motions.

In terms of quirks, it isn't a matter of speed but a matter of simplicity.  The spelling "armour" is marginally more difficult to remember than "armor."  There actually seems to be a culture against intellect right now anyway.

I think extra "u"s are elegant.

I second that motion.  "Aluminium" just sounds silly, though.
I like to use english spellings on some words and not on others.
I also like to put on accents, but that's a different story.
I prefer my native Midwestern Broadcaster/Standard English (The sort usually spoken on television.)

I'm thankful for Canada.  They're awesome.
And my family, of course.  And large electronics companies.  And the beauty of talented work.
