Didnt have time to check yet.
Just a quick question:
What are the folders windows loads dlls from.
In my oppinion windows loads dll only from the folowing folders in exactly the following order:
1) Application\'s folder
2) System32 folder
3) Local path variables
4) Global path variables

Is this correct? Are dlls loaded from the Windows (XP) and WINNT (Win200) folders as well?

wait a moment, I don\'t remember that d at the end of msvcrt71d.dll. Is it the debug version? So maybe I don\'t have the debug version? Is the install version built lately in debug mode? Than why is it not in the install package? Or maybe it is, but is getting installed only in the system folder? Good Idea, I\'ll check this out. Thanks for help.

Ah, obviously nobody donate anything to me
---------

Lol, you don\'t have a donation link on you\'re site neigther. I\'m btw asking it because, Im writing a java rpg and would like to put out a donation link on my webside in a very preliminary alpha phase . You know, maybe if even one doesnt like the game, but still donates 5 dollars or so for example  to check out how paypal works, lol, it would be worth trying. Did anyone have real experience with these donation links? On the other hand maybe Acraig is right that donations can ruin the team spirit, I dont have such team experience. Btw I use to read the cvs history of ps, and I donot see any rapid advancement there. It seems though that not every work is logged there.

Yeah I downloaded the newest install version. Uninstalled the old one, and installed the new. The msvc dll-s are all the same size in system and program folder as well, thus I dont think they are corrupt. The interesting thing is that when I deleted both it still showed the same error. How is this possible, when the dll doesnt exist in neither folders? Maybe it is used from a 3d folder? A have a developement version, can they conflict? I guess I\'ll make a complete search on my harddrive at the weekend.

Jorrit,
Hmmm, but why not initiate a donation process, it doesnt hurt... In the worst scenario nobody will pay. The point is that with adequate donation you could make at least one person work full-time or \"some part-time - part-time\". I guess a donation link would not disillusion any gamer. Not my business, I\'m just surprised.

The entire idea of Open Source is that people can use the code to make other projects. In fact at this moment there are at least two other projects that use PlaneShift source code (LessShift and Virtual Annelov). This is a good thing.
---------------------------------------------------------
Yes, but it may backstab splitting donators into several fragments, which would not will have happened in a less open philosophy. The speed of developement depends primarily on donations which allocate extra time to the developers, who thus are less dependant on their primary source of income. But sure, open source is a great thing in the ethical sense and a great advancement to computer technology on a global scale.

Lol, It sounds like: Hi, I\'ve stolen the source code and making my own game. Is this normal? I guess this open-source philosophy should be rethought ,lol.

Yesterday I deleted msvcr71 from system and game folder, and it still crashed in msvcr71.dll... Huh! How is that possible??? Btw, any exe from the planeshift folder crashes with access violation (read of address 0000blabla), although some in the exe itself. All this with ps only: other games/applications run fine. Any Idea, ( excluding reinstalling windows: I wont do that.)

same here, thus my problem is not solved. I guess only uninstalling VS6 or installing .Net would help, however I cant do neither :( It seems that my problem is in underlying dlls from vs6.

It sais acces violation 000000000000 in module msv..71 for any exe in plainshift folder (installed from updater, not cvs).

I have msvcrt71 both in system and planeshift folder, they came down with some of the latest updates and installs. However If your version works with other versions of the dll maybe I just need to delete them all, and leave only msvc70 or 6? I have a bunch of them on my harddisk, I need only 6 for developement. What version do you have? Anyway, thanks for the idea, ill try to delete some on saturday.

Development Deliberation / msvcrt71 crash
« on: May 23, 2005, 06:18:16 pm »
My client, updater etc crashes im msvcrt71. I\'m almost sure that it\'s because i have VS6 installed. However I donot want to uninstall it and I dont have .NET, is there a way to clear the msvcrt71 dependency, since I believe the game normally doesnt need it (well maybe in debug mode). I know that this is not a developement question, but in bugs section I was ignored probably because confusing the problem with the missing msvcrt71 problem, whereas Im not missing it.

Psclient, pssetup and updater are crashing with access violation on startup in msvcrt71. Could this dependency be solved?

I have VS6 installed, and it conflicts with msvcrt71. But I donot have a .NET and dont want to uninstall my VS6. So I\'m now unable to play PS. Could someone please make the client independent of these msvcrt71... I dont even understand why is it needed, its a part of the developement envirovment isnt it?

Hmm, maybe you misunderstand. What I say, is that you cant say: Hi Bitula Sonka, how do you do, without first asking my name. Sure, after you\'ve asked it, you can call me this way until you die (or the wipe). On the other hand I donot have the right to call myself on other name (if label is on), unless I\'m disguising myself within rp. Now this is a minimal requierement. If one is just lazy to ask one\'s name, he can still talk without making reference to it. /tell, /say etc are part of rp tools,  these are not seen by the reciever, so nothing wrong here. These, the console window itself and other features are technikal features, they donot conflict with rp. \"Where can I buy equipment\" is rp, while \"How do I buy (technically) an equipment\" is not.

BTW: I think that rping the wipe is a nonsense. Why should a technical error be incorporated into the world. Why just not forget it, and start from beginning. Soooooooo nonsense. It\'s like because of the quests don\'t work, we would make up that the Gods sent a \"Ray of Forgetting Quests\" onto those who have one. LOL.

--------------------------------------------------
There will be no dragons in PS, if I\'m to understand correctly
--------------------------------------------------
Lol, how do you know that Dragons won\'t be implemented in for example 10 years. Is it a rule or what? Or part of the story: like gods forbid Dragons to exist? Or maybe a philosophy: Dragons cannot exists, like lightspeed can never be exceeded.
