Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Freezing up PC

When i load up planeshift, it loads up fine. i can log in alright, but when itis on the loading screen, it getsas far as initializing the map, and then my whole pc crashes and i have to restart.

this has happened many times, and i would appreciate help on this.
