I am a little scared by this death aura. Not that I do not think protecting bodies from being looted is a bad idea, but mihgt that not be a little dangerous if somebody dies in group combat, and then in the heat of the melee, someone else stumbles into the corpse?

Or is touching meant in the way that you \"press the use button\" on the corpse?

That would be door number 2. :)

What? ?(

Or is touching meant in the way that you \"press the use button\" on the corpse? Just having to have a poly-collision with the body sounds bad, while \"using it\" and being punished or something sounds cool to me.

Apart from that: nice! Thanks for the update!

As far as I can see from the CVS, this has just been added to the updater, right? Which is something I really like.

Anbother option would be like the NWN launcher, which ... launches a splash screen like window with  (among others) a button to play and one to update. No need to have 2 shortcuts on the desktop then, but also no need to open the directory where PlaneShift is installed and manually select one of the starters. And of course, those who do not like it can just change the shortcut to point to the regular starter.

Found it before October, but I did a search on SourceForge for \"rpg\".

Yeah, I guess shadows will impact rendering a lot, but ... I fo one would rather at least have blobs under the characters and scale down on resolution, sampling or texture detail than not have shadows at all, since it really helps the overall immersiveness - the characters just seem to be more \"there\".

With blobs I mean just that, a round darkening of the floor beneath the model, roughly the models diameter, the way some shooters had them, like Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy for example. That should not cost too much processing power.

Additional comment on the movie: nice. Really! It really shows progress is being made, and that is something that had been sadly missing around here...  I did not like the interface, though, it looked to cluttered (the buttons at the top). I guess it will be possible to skin it, and I have already resolved to do a skin.

My question would be: can you scale it as a whole (so it takes only 50% width of the screen if you have a high resolution), manually I mean (it doesn\'t just stay the same width in pixels, but scales to 100% of the screen width, unless I specify differently)?

Well, guess what... this actually made me want CB even more. This is quite a good read, if you bother to really try to see what if all means. I take it there is really a lot going on in development right now! ;)

I just wanted to point out something that might be of interest for all those donating or accepting donated work here:

This works perfectly well in the USA and UK, I think, but... in European countries not related to any Anglosaxon tradition, the historical view on copyright is fundamentally different. This results in the fact that here in Europe (I am German) no one can donate a copyright, or give it up.

IANAL, sure thing, but the only thing you can donate or license is the right to use the created work, but the author will always remain the author and keep the copyright itself.

This makes the whole transatlantic licensing of digital music so ... interesting, but that is another story and shall be told another time.

My point is: check your contracts or whatever you use. You might end up with european donations that are suddenly used somewhere else. And rightfully so! Make sure that laws of some specific country are binding or something... not the country of the author or whatever.

I do not want to add anything to the zone instancing flame war right now, but I beta-tested Horizons: Empire of Istaria, and they seem to have a \"solution\" for the looting of your kills: the corpse \"belongs\" to the killer (this statement does not take KS into account, since I never experienced it), and only he could loot it.

I do not remember if the corpse became public domain or something after a time without the killer looting it, but something like that sounds solid to me.

Well, okay, that might help. Thank you both.

Will try again now!

I also have to add that for me this is kinda hard because I have not found any avatar that looked like an NPC.

Most people that stand around doing nothing are just people being offline, and others are running around.

Am I supposed to talk to every generic looking avatar with a stupid naming popping up, saying \"Hello\" until I finally figure he did not respond because he just is not an NPC?

Or am I doing something wrong?
