About speaking to NPC's
« on: August 25, 2003, 10:39:43 pm »
If you do not fix the NPC\'s I will be forced to write and publish guides on how to get through the quests.
Seeing newbies throughout the entire day shouting in caps \"THIS IS AGGRAVATING\" \"JUST TELL ME WHAT TO SAY\" \"HOW DO I TALK TO THEM\" \"THIS IS F**K*NG ANNOYING\" that gets even more annoying than the NPC\'s and that\'s saying alot. ;)

Really, those are just a few people who use caps and get really annoyed.

And don\'t you think they are  working on it? This is pre-alpha as you may have noticed, it is in no way perfect. Why do you think all the convos with npcs are being logged. To improve their responses in later releases.

Please don\'t demand things from the devs, be thankfull that they gave us something to do. Is this their thanks for trying to please us?
Nobody said it would be perfect.

No reason to get all upset about it.

...And if you publish walkthroughs to the quests, we\'ll have no choice but to do very bad things to you involving various novelty shaped root vegetables. ;)

muahaha - or you could always just join a guild and realize that people have already started doing just what you are proposing to do... minus the veggies of course

JiLT you could always say to a NPC
\"Is there something I can do for you?\"
\"Do you have something for me to do?\"
\"Can I help you with something?\"
\"Can I help you at all?

also try asking how the NPC\'s are feeling, they might say \"I lost my [thing].\" Always start with Hello or Hi, because if you say \"OMG t3h 1337n3ss, j0 h4v3 4nY qu3sts f0 m3 t0 d00?\" the NPC will probably punch you. :D I know i would. :P

You could then go looking for said [thing] and then retrive it. ;)
Precious and beutiful, it is happy. The only time when it is not is when it is in a shape of a tear.

I also have to add that for me this is kinda hard because I have not found any avatar that looked like an NPC.

Most people that stand around doing nothing are just people being offline, and others are running around.

Am I supposed to talk to every generic looking avatar with a stupid naming popping up, saying \"Hello\" until I finally figure he did not respond because he just is not an NPC?

Or am I doing something wrong?

NPCs will reply to you straight away after you type something to them. They also usually have a surname or apostrophies in their name, helping to distinguish PC from NPC.

Don\'t forget Zak and Jayose, they haven\'t a surname or an apostrophie.  Jayose is obviously a NPC (or a PC impersonating a NPC) based on his location; but Zak isn\'t quite as obvious (except for his attire, but I doubt a newb would know better).

but don\'t expect saying hello alot to help... you will probably get that ever enjoyable \"what\'chyou say?\" many many times... for at least a week or so before you throw your monitor out the window in a fit of rage...
