I expect better behaviour from a prospect, Keldrena, Rizin said leave it alone.

Speaking of what Rizin said, I don't see how stressed devs have an effect on Roleplay so perhaps Wavan a different title would have been more appropriate.  "A few things unwell about the state of PS" or some such.

Anyways, I reread the first post and just wanted to bring attention to this (in order to sneak the thread back on topic):

8. Your character is not you, be willing to loose: Your character might be epic, but things happen, and it's only a game, your reputation can go to 0 in just one day. Don't feel bad about it, even if it's your main character. Just roleplay how bad your character feels, but don't let the feeling get to you.

How many people do get too attached to their characters?  God knows I was much too attached to Nurahk and would never let anything happen to him (something Rizin can attest to! :P ).  Is there a way to keep players from getting so attached and if so, would it increase RolePlay?

Great post, Wavan and calm down Keldrena.  In short:

I didn't realize disagreeing with you made me a jerk.

It doesn't but:
Okay. I'll just go tell the devs not to be stressed and I'm sure that will fix everything. You're brilliant. I'm working as prospect and even that is s a bit stressful for me. I really really don't think you get it at all. You can not "profit" from something and still be stressed by it.

That post does make you a jerk.  There's no need for sarcasm unless you want this thread to turn into a bunch of flames.

As a former prospect who's living with a former dev and is friends with many former devs (and hopefully not on too bad footing with current ones) I do agree with Wavan.  The Devs do tend to get over stressed and perhaps taking more time to relax would benefit all, especially them.

Saying devs make mistakes and get overly stressed shouldn't be met with such hostility.  It's two simple facts.

I understand the demands of players are hard to ignore but, if you do it for just a few hours a week it'll help immensely.

PlaneShift is not well.

'Cause it just got burned, son!

Moon laying down the law :P

It's definitely not a line that would be a description breaker it's just not a good trend to follow.  I do agree that the same line worded differently "His eyes seem filled with a respectful aura" or some such would be fine.  Perhaps it wasn't the best example.

6. You make stupid mistakes: Again, I saw a character who has been around for years, and in its description it said "His eyes make you feel respect". Why would I respect someone I don't know? I respect them as I respect any person I don't know, right?
I'd read that as "he appears to be very confident". At least that's how I'd feel about someone who maintains a strong eye contact. Most people shy away from prolonged gaze and yes, I actually feel more respect for people that don't. Alternatively he may be setting his eyes on your forehead, but that's more likely to cause intimidation than respect, I guess.

First, what are you doing here, Drak?  Get out :P

And second, telling somebody else what they should feel is wrong.  "He appears to be very confident" is fine "His eyes make you feel respect" is very much along the lines of "His teeth make you give him all your tria", it's godmoding, just accidental and to a small degree.

PlaneShift is attracting too small of an audience.

The relative stasis of the player base is clue enough.

PlaneShift is not what it is not.

Until people build it to be more than what it is, it is not going to be what it is not.

Nobody seems to be whining Timmeh, just expressing views.  If you want to call that whining go ahead but, unless you're going to add to the topic in an at least mock mature way, get out :P  Most threads like this get turned into heated debates which fall into a certain "You're disagreeing with the devs so you must be trying to destroy everything" template (something I've been on both sides of much too often).  I'm hoping this won't be the case.

So Timmeh:
Do you think a kick should be used as a warning?
What do you think constitutes as swearing?
Should devs always be opped?

Or are you here just to disturb the topic and not to contribute to it?

I would start changing the kick as a warning. Doesn't sound friendly at all.

And then again, if a rule is broken, it's broken for everyone, a guy even a troll even if he's one of the favs is under the same laws.

I assume you mean that a troll should be treated the same way as an older member for the same actions.  I agree with that completely though as does everybody I assume.
Imo only one rule is needed;

1) Channel Op is always right.

Nice to have input on somebody who hasn't graced #ps in months :P  But no, with a community this large I doubt that simple rule will work.

The new IRC rules beg the question.  "What counts as swearing?"

For instance there are words that could be considered swearing all over the forums (Such as "bastard" and "damn") but they go unmoderated.  Will these be moderated in the IRC channel and why?

Also, do you believe it's best to warn by kicking and not being friendly about it.  I imagine a simple "Don't use that kind of language" would deliver a better message than an out right kick.  Operator actions have a large affect on the general atmosphere of the channel and kicking like that will generate a very poor atmosphere, I believe.

As the Freenode Channel Guidelines say:
Quote
Use channel operator privileges sparingly. Each time you use them you raise the channel temperature. Users will be pleased with you, angry at you, frustrated that you used them inappropriately, envious that you have control over the discussion. None of these reactions may be conscious on the part of other users, but all of them increase the channel temperature.

They also mention something about not always holding onto ops but, I doubt that will change.

Opinions?  Answers?

I agree it is fun to see these updates.  What's even funner though, is seeing snarky comments from devs who mistake obvious criticism for passive-aggressive attacks on the team :P

Also, just watching the team fall into crazy is rather funny, too.

kthnxbai!

Quickly scanned over it and didn't notice anything about strength but, either way, must have been an exceptional lady.

Wonder what the warrior females of Planeshift think about that?

They'd probably get too emotional and overreact :P

But still, historic day and what not!

Eh, the coding for the voicing is probably already dealt with, there probably isn't too much that is needed to do to get voices into the game so the bug fixes probably wouldn't slow down even if it wasn't as Xillix has said.  Either way, I think it's a step in the right direction but, not everybody will agree with me, as is true no matter what you implement/fix next :P

Great job, Dev Team.

I've been asked not to post insulting stuff on the forums due to my last few posts... Which were awesome in my opinion but - pffft - whatev.

I guess the Kran head is okay.. I mean, it's a rock with eyes and a mouth, not super hard...

But the cubes and the filter make it look like the floating juju god of psychedelic failures.

Your "art" is where dreams go to die.

But keep up the good work! :D
