Wish list / Re: Cooking recipes
« on: October 19, 2006, 08:49:26 pm »
Sorry, I didn't want to break the flow of all these lovely sounding recipes, but I was wondering about this:

Art is part of the settings of PlaneShift, but if you post art/models on the forums then they cannot be put in the game because of the restrictions of the ABC License. Recipes like this would also be part of the settings that make up PlaneShift, thus these great ideas can now no longer be contributed to the game. Especially since they could also be described as "walkthroughs" (but I'm not 100% sure on the policy of non-quest related spoilers.)

Anyone clarify this for me? Thanks.

Great idea though Kerol. Maybe recipes could be sent privately (competition?) to the PS team, and the best will be put in-game?

Ah, really? You have to have a certain intelligence for that to work? I did not know that. In that case, I think the current system is even better. Putting coloured names for everyone to know instantly about the strength of a monster is too fair :) It takes skill to kill them, it should take skill to judge them too.

I like this idea. Or even something like a customisable chat box, so instead of tabs, they are checkboxes that will filter out different channels (or another channel that is customisable.)

I find is usually best to see all the events that are happening, but the All chat tab shows too much information, especially when nearby people are fighting. Even the option to filter out other players attack rolls would be good enough.

What\'s wrong with /targetinfo ? Gives a good enough guess as to the relative strengths between you and the beasties. Can\'t be given to you on a plate, needing previous experience is a good thing. Just be prepared to run if need be :)

General Discussion /
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:59:36 pm »
I didn\'t post in the original thread, since I spotted it late and everything that I would have said had already been mentioned.

But I do want to take the time now to thank Talad for these public questions & feedback threads. I think to a lot of people the PS team has been perceived to be closed/quiet about feedback and such ( although those of us who have stayed with PS a while know that it\'s just because there are more important things in an already busy schedule ). I think it\'s a very Good Thing indeed to take the time to do this kind of things, so thanks again.

All hail Talad!

Linux Specific Issues /

I think people are getting confused between the various Linux installers going around. Platyna\'s one was a *.run, whereas Xordans new one is a *.bin.

I\'ve never tried Platyna\'s installer, but it seems to be unmaintained anyway (I guess it should still work until the next update though). Xordans is the new one to use, although at the moment I think it\'s too new - the CVS snapshot it is based on is a little unstable for most people.

The screenshot in lansers post is Xordans, which gives much more options (system wide install or not, game group options, etc).

First thing that came to my mind - did you reset the HDD jumper back to Master, or whatever it was on before?

Other than that - MaidenIndigo\'s advice on double checking all connections are secure, etc is best.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

But is this new (or old I guess) version you yoinked from your son still 0.3.011? And did the lockings start just after an update you did?

If it wasn\'t some sort of hardware problem, then it seems unlikely that it would start happening on it\'s own without changing something. Maybe you could try updating again to see if the previous one was just \"bad\"? At least you know you\'ve got a backup somewhere :)

You can check the server status at the fragnetics website. There are stats on the left. I think it should show there if the server was down.

P.S. Cute sig. Karyuu :)

Fan Art /

Simply amazing - looks really nice. Here\'s my opinions for improvements...

The lowest point on the N is overhanging off the edge of the wooden base. In the original PS logo it looks like it has been chopped off. Not that it has to be a perfect replica of the original of course, but none of the rest is overhanging.

Is there a way to make the definition of the L stand out a bit more? It\'s borders get completely lost in the P. I actually prefer the kerning on the oringinal more - the fonts look nicer all joined together like a single entity.

All these talented 3D artists around here make it look so easy :(

Heh, nevermind :D Hope it\'s a bitorrent and you share it... ( What kind of connection do you have?! )

Let us all know how it goes! I\'m going to wait and install it on my server tomorrow.

fken - since you seem to be a Debian user, a few questions if I may? What/where are the best resources for community help? I can only find mailing lists on debian.org, and I seem to have this innate distaste to mail lists for some reason. Are there any official forums? If I apt-get, say, apache, will it grab any dependencies that I don\'t have too? ( Sorry - am reading the documentation, but not found anything about this yet :) ).

Cheers,

Hmm, I hear Sarge has ( finally ;) ) been released proper. I think I will try it out myself. I\'ve got an old 400MHz box lying around not doing anything just yet - a good binary distro will do nicely. Yay, a \"new\" server to play with!

I much prefer fken\'s recommendation - get the net install disk, and download only the programs you want. 8GB\'s worth of data is such a  waste of bandwidth as far as I\'m concerned. Especially when you consider that many packages will have security updates and the like, so will change anyway. ( I think this is what fken means? ).

/me runs off to download Debian
