Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / AI question
« on: March 25, 2004, 04:33:42 am »
Upon more failure searching through the forums for answers, I figure I\'ll just make a new thread for this.  Does anybody know what AI system/engine that the devs are using for the monsters/NPCs.  Is it one they are writing from scratch or are they integrating another projects work into PS?

What the hell went wrong?

All four major OSes are represented here (Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix (what OS X is built off of)).

PS~ hook where did you get your icon set? or is it like mosfet-liquid rendering them like that?

What are you using to make Planeshift?  Are you using \"make\" or something like XCode or Codewarrior?

I don\'t believe that there is firewall made by Microsoft that is built in Win98, or any Windows system for that matter, previous to XP.

Ok, well maybe there are to many complications involved with creating and distributing a boxed version of PS.

I know that this is more of a PR issue, but regardless, I\'ll say it anyways.  IMHO, this project really isn\'t that easy to find.  The way I found out about the project was in a LinuxJournal (or some other Linux mag) article when they were interviewing the CrystalSpace devs.  I\'m sure gamer mags would eat up this stuff.  They have CDs chauked full of demos and what not every month.  I think it would be easier to distribute PS to the masses through one of these mediums.  Hell, with what this project is, you could probably have the game be the cover story.  Has this issue been explored?  I know somewhere on the forum, there was an article in a PC mag in Europe somewhere.  Really not that helpful I guess for those of us that live in US.

Just more to ponder.

Well, I\'m certainly glad to see the devs be so adamantly against PS turning into a pay-2-play game.  :D

T-shirts and posters, now there is a good idea.  I\'d definitly pick up a PS t-shirt if one were made available.

elscouta, i do see your point on the publisher thing.  but if PS had one person that was part of the PS team (obviously not the devs, they\'ve got way to much else to worry about) do the publishing (printing, duplicating), then you could probably pull it off.

I\'m talking more big picture, like when the majority of features are implemented and when the game becomes like 99% playable.

General Discussion / Boxed Version of PS
« on: March 08, 2004, 08:59:34 pm »
I don\'t know if there was previous discussion of this or not (if there was I couldn\'t find it).  But what would be the advantages/disadvantages of making a boxed version of Planeshift?  It would probably cause some upfront costs (CDs, printing, duplication), but if you charged like $20-$30 for it, I assume that the project could generate a little funding so that they may put it towards other things related to the project (new server, a mac to help the mac-client development, etc).  Obviously you wouldn\'t start charging to get connected into the game, and there would still the downloadable version of the client.  It would also be a nice option for those of us that don\'t have broadband (me).

If the majority of the speed problems were solved with the release of Panther, then are there any objections from the devs to have it posted \"officially\" in the downloads section of the main site?  Obviously with minimum requirements disclaimer.
