MB and CB Mac Releases
« on: February 14, 2004, 01:30:37 am »
As one of the testers of the Molecular Blue release for Mac, I am glad that they didn\'t release it to the public, because it was so incredibly slow ( I could hardly get even 1 frame a minute).  I am just wandering, out of curiosity, what types of things were learned from the release of Molecular Blue on the Mac.  And also does anyone know if (hopefully a month or two from now) Crystal Blue will be released with a Mac version also?  Or are the developers just shooting for the same release schedule of Windows, then Linux, then Mac?  Either way it doesn\'t matter I guess, seeing as how I have all the platforms :P

How the Mac version gets tested and made into a distro is entirely up to the Mac community here.  None of the dev team members use Macs, so we cannot do it ourselves.

It still gets built and tested on Mac periodically and it isn\'t as big a deal to get working as it used to be.  Panther release of OS X essentially fixed the slowness problems and made the Mac not that much worse than everyone else on MB.

If the majority of the speed problems were solved with the release of Panther, then are there any objections from the devs to have it posted \"officially\" in the downloads section of the main site?  Obviously with minimum requirements disclaimer.

The problem is that the Mac MB client may be incompatible with the PC MB server, and they\'d have to change the server to a version where some problems were fixed.

I understand that the endianness issues have been worked out of CB, and so when CB comes along, we the Mac community will be able to supply the devs with a working build & installer.

Also worth noting is that the performance problems were fixed prior to Panther; current CrystalSpace on 10.2.8 works fine.
