It\'s a good idea and I would like to see it implemented, it also sounds familiar to the combat/magic system in the Final Fantasy games, but on a more realistic basis.
You can\'t stab a skeleton, but you can bash him to pieces, this would create a more tactical approach to combat than the usual run and gun approach.

Keep in mind that the source of light is very high up, also our plants grow fine with only one source of light.  It all depends on the scale of things.  but what you say has some fact to it, all plants follow the sun as it moves across the sky, even blades of grass move with the sun\'s angle.
The higher up the crystal is the less of the angle that the plants will lean towards the light source.

Heres an old Typie, Leather Goddesses of Phebos, nothing like going though that \"Change in Life\" *wink wink*  and having a sex filled typing adventure to fill the mind\'s eye.  Also another good one was Hitchhiker\'s Guide to the Galaxy.

When in doubt, blame magic.  Magic can explain anything regardless how obscure.

I like the idea that I could be going through a cave that I have been through many times and discovering that a rockslide has revealed a new tunnel.  Major game changes that effect everyone should be announced, but there is a certain element of exploration if the dev\'s keep quiet about some things.
For example, I can remember playing Wolfenstien 3d for hours after I finished it, just looking for all the secret areas.

I\'m pretty sure it involves all items, including weapons and other stuff, however I\'m not sure if it came from a dev or was just a wish by the community.
It wiil be good when players start to develop unique items, by creating compitition, and lowering prices.  But in the end run it all boils down to the community.
Say Mary Sue is a Uber metalsmith and as a result charges Uber prices.  If the product is worth the price people will pay it, if not she will not be able to do business.  For example;  Volvo, Mercedes, Audi, and many others make vehicles that are very expensive, yet people still buy them.
The reason people are willing to pay the price for these products, is because they are worth it.  If a company comes out with a Million \"Tria\" car that drives like crap and is generally uncomfortable and unsafe, that company will generally go by the wayside.
Sorry for the rant, just started that one up and she ran away.  In short the people decide the worth of a product by voting with their wallets.

p.s.  I was surfing and found this article on msn might be interesting  http://slate.msn.com/id/2078053/

I agree with Tangerine,  In MMORPGs the prices are pretty much fixed.  If, as a merchant, you undercut or overprice your product you either sell out, or sell none respectively(sp).
Of course in the beginning there will be few people who will be able to manufacture products, so naturally the demand will be high as well as the price.  The economy will level out though as more manufacturers start to put their products on the market for less.  Converting Xtals into Tri should have no effect on inflation, it would most likely speed up the leveling out of the economy.
This whole scenario should be very interesting to watch from an economists point of view, might make for some really good research.
I remember seeing somewhere that all items will degrade with time and use, that would take care of problems with the market being flooded.  I also feel that the primary model for the economy will be an \"As needed\" basis.  An item will be created when a costumer needs it.
you have to keep in mind though that the conversion to Trias will be initiated in the next release, so it is likely that the impact on the economy in the final release will be negligent.

I agree with Hook, Open source will prove to be more resistant to cheating just because the code is open.  For every cheater/exploiter out there that publishes a cheat a fix can be made by onother person with knowledge of the exploit.  Open source just makes it easier to fix the problem because Dev\'s don\'t neccessarily have to fix the problem.  For instance a gamer discovers an exploit in the code, takes it on himself to code a fix and posts it for the Devs to review, problem solved.  With propietary code this is much more difficult if not impossible.
I can see it now Hacking the  H@x0rs hacks.
Ooooh gives me the tingles, cheaters will eventually cause their own extinction.

To establish roleplaying as a factor in a game it is the responsiblity of the gamers themselves to set the standard.  That is why \"The game that shall not be named\" is known as an RP game, the community within it doesn\'t tolerate anything else; don\'t like go elsewhere, it\'s simple.
That being said, I don\'t feel that there is a need to roleplay every minute, ie. buying a sword, just give it to me and off I go.  But when i am interacting with another player IN-Game I would like some resemblence of roleplaying to go along with that.
I think that the main misconception about Role-playing is that everyone thinks that they have to talk in old english ie, \"Thou\", \"Thoust\" and all that other stuff.  As far as I\'m concerned that is unnecessary and a little bit asine.
Also \"leet\" speak is not a language, it is just a encryption of a text.  When I write l337 you read it as \"leet\" and pronounce it as such, unlike in a language that you read the text, pronounce it, and then translate it into your language.  A spoken example of l337 would be \"English english\".  (see Austin powers)

Yeah, but I\'m sure we will be able to find other fugs (fun bugs) to play around with.  I will miss jumping from rooftop to rooftop, and running around the battlements though.  but hey, that\'s what we are here to do, contribute for the greater cause.

Why not have high goals, I think what the dev\'s are trying to accomplish goes into trying to break the mold that all mmorpg\'s seem to be forced into.  If something is worth doing it is worth doing well.  When they succeed in doing what they have set out to do I feel that it will have a huge impact on the genre.  This can only be good for the genre, even if they only accomplish half of what we are all expecting.
For example look at the new video, what is shown is on par with any other mmog currently out there, and it\'s free.  I believe that PS will make all the other Publishers out there stand up and take notice.

I think the difference between a PGer and a RPer is, simply a RP is involved in the community.  Yes powergaming is a part of roleplaying, in the sense that everyone should be striving to better themselves for the sake of the party.  However a person that \"levels\" or increases their skills just for notoriety, I wuold label a PG.  Keep in mind that alot of PGs are also grief players, liking nothing better then \"pwning\" someone.  I have no problem wwith someone bettering themselves in the game, provided that the intention is to make the game better with their increased involvement.

I agree with that, I think that\'s closer to what I meant than what I wrote, sorry for any confusion.  Skill progession should be about roleplaying not killing monsters.  In D&D the dm would assign level points and other goodies based on how well you roleplayed (least that was how we played) and whoever stayed in character the best got bonuses.  That is what I mean by rewarding the roleplayer.  I don\'t see how killing monsters has anything to do with skill progession, unless you are a warrior or combat related class.  Why would a blacksmith need to kill monsters to increase his smithing skills?
