Wish list / Re: New type of Quest
« on: July 23, 2007, 02:19:29 am »
The last MMORPG I played was Anarchy Online (a long time ago), which used a system of randomly generating dungeons whenever you got a "quest" (their term, being a sci-fi MMORPG and all, was "mission"). Basically you bought a mission from a terminal, were directed toward a random building in a city, walked inside, and were whisked across the server to a randomly generated dungeon area that nobody else could see or visit (unless they had the same quest, which is impossible unless you were part of the same team). Mission terminals would cover a variety of missions, such as "go here and kill this person", or "recover this object", or even "take this object and combine it with another object inside the building". I think it was a great idea, as it offered variety as well as the rewards of being an actual quest rather than just killing monsters in the environment. I think it would be great if Planeshift adopted a similar idea.

Complaint Department / Re: PlaneShift - Graphics & Requirements
« on: July 22, 2007, 07:18:01 pm »
I understand what you mean, and I also hope the rendering engine will be tweaked to run faster on hardware that has the capacity for it. Some flashy graphics options couldn't hurt either, but I don't want to pester the devs either on the amazing work they're already doing. All I can recommend for now is to go to the graphics -> details menu in-game (correct me if I'm wrong: I can't check right now) and enable adaptive distance. Then tweak it so you get a distance you like, as well as a framerate you like. It helped me a great deal, especially in the death realm, and it should work for you.

General Discussion / Re: Running around with drawn weapons
« on: July 22, 2007, 07:04:43 pm »
I agree that running around with weapons drawn inside cities is generally not a good thing IC. Guards will probably be a lot more suspicious of someone walking around swinging two longswords around as compared to someone who has them sheathed. As for people who don't necessarily want to be forced into character, it's easier than having to go into your inventory and drag the item(s) on and off their hands every time they enter or leave the wilderness (for example, someone fighting to increase/buy more skills, or someone selling animal parts). I tend to do it a lot myself, but my computer also tends to choke and stutter in crowded areas. I think for now, until the guards take an official stance on whether bare weapons are legal or illegal, it's probably safe to assume no one's going to unintentionally spear you on a street corner  :D

ah. well, thanks anyway. (looks under couch for some extra money)

I\'m guessing it\'s the RAM, but there\'s nothing I can do about that right now. I tried a program called \"Windows Power Tools\" that suppossedly frees up RAM, but it didn\'t make much of a difference. After running it, I tried to log in, but after an hour nothing happened at all. But if anyone has any recommendations for PC optimizing tools, don\'t hesitate to tell me!

OS: Windows ME
Processor: Pentium III ~800MHz
RAM: 128MB
HDD: 12.5 free GB
VIDEO: (so low that it shames me)

I\'ve got all the latest drivers, I tried closing out ALL open programs, i just finished updating, etc. etc. As soon as I get some money, I\'m getting a new PC. This 2000 Gateway isn\'t cutting it.  8)

Edit: I thought I\'d just mention that I tried it on lowest possible settings, with all sound options (OpenAL just crashes, even though I installed it) and I have Comcast cable internet, if that helps any.

Okay, when I first installed CB, it loaded completely and I was able to play in like 5 minutes. Now today, I had to wait half an hour just for the bar to get to the middle of the screen. I don\'t have \"load all maps\" enabled and i\'m using the lowest possible settings. Was this intended in the update, or is it just like in MB when the first load always took the longest?

The Hydlaa Plaza / The Sands of Time vs. The Warrior Within
« on: December 27, 2004, 05:52:42 am »
Originally, I planned to spend my Christmas break online playing Planeshift. However, since every time I try to log on I >>>>>>|  go linkdead   |<<<<<< ( X( ), I turned to the next best thing, the new Prince of Persia game that I recieved for Christmas.
Now, it may just be me, but even on an Xbox there happened to be a lot of bugs in that game. For instance, when I entered one enormous room, there was a movie that was suppossed to play. Did that movie play? Of course not! I spent about two hours running around that room looking for a way out. Also, certain sounds don\'t play, like when the dog-creatures explode.
And don\'t forget about those adrenaline-pumping times when the music will reach its climax, then stop playing.   I also saw some graphical issues with the game, such as dead enemy body parts floating after they\'re killed, and white lines flashing where the faces of two objects met (such as on a box) (forget what it\'s called, though)
That\'s about it, considering what problems I encountered in the game.
Other than that, even the gampeplay was really awkward. In one instance, I managed to do a vault off of someone\'s back and flew so far that I threw myself off the edge of the world. Whee! :D  Also, I could do without the gallons of blood gushing out of everything living and non-living and the squishy squishy sound that makes you want to just throw up accompanying it.
The puzzles are challenging and exciting, though. The game\'s very redundant, but it keeps you sort of entranced until the end. The Prince mostly decided his own controls, especially during fights. One time I told him to rewind time, so he jumped off the side of a cliff. Not very intelligent, is he?
Well, I just wanted to get this thread started and get your opinions on either game.

You\'re lucky I\'m not a mod. Actually, I\'m surprised nobody\'s flamed you yet. These questions have been answered already, so if you\'d look at the top of the page you\'ll find a nifty little search button. Just type in the filenames or another key word, and I think you\'ll find the answers to your questions in another thread.  8)

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Updater Not Responding
« on: December 26, 2004, 05:18:18 pm »
Hope you don\'t mind my contribution to the endless sea of Crystal Blue bugs, but I did a search and this didn\'t seem to pop up anywhere else. This is what happens:

Welcome to the Planeshift updater version 1.02.1!
Click update to start
(click update)
Downloading registry...
Loaded registry...
Server has another updater going to fetch it...
Downloading registry...
Loaded registry...
Updating updater to version 1.02.1...

Then C:\\WINDOWS\\COMMAND.COM pops up and nothing happens. The updater doesn\'t freeze or anything, it just sits there and does nothing. I\'ve let it sit for hours at a time, and still nothing happens. Any ideas?

Actually, i\'ve found that CB can run on extremely low-power graphics cards. I was recently visiting some family and used their computer: a Pentium III 800MHz Gateway with -get this- 5.5MB display memory. It ran at about a constant 4.5 fps, even in the small less crowded areas, occassionally dipping to .2 or .3 fps. Oh yeah, don\'t forget the text/texture/player model distortions. It\'s playable if you don\'t mind ripping chunks of your hair out every three minutes.  :D

after you migrate, you have to go to http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register/index.php. Just follow the readme from there.
