Missing files, crash on load.
« on: January 02, 2005, 04:53:03 pm »
After having tried build 0.3.005 and being highly unsuccesful, I got the advice to try 0.3.004 instead, because it should run more stable on Win 98SE.

I\'ve reinstalled now (after completely removing the old one) and now both the updater and the client program show the same error on load.

Code: [Select]
LoadLibraryEx(E:\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\\vfs.dll) error 1157: One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.kernel.vfs\'
Couldn\'t load VFS plugin \"crystalspace.kernel.vfs\"!
ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!
Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?
Exiting Planeshift.  Press Enter...

I assume that it needs this .DLL to work. Is there some way to find this missing file, or do I have to re-download the entire thing again?

Also, I don\'t know if this is a known error with the 0.3.004 version, but I\'m pretty much stuck. I\'ve also tried running the setup program, but that doesn\'t seem to even do anything at all. (I\'ve checked for running processes, it didn\'t show up)

Help please :(

1. You need to copy libz-cs.dll to libz.dll in your planeshift directory (not NOT rename, copy the file)

2. run the updater in a DOS-window:
     UPDATER.EXE --auto
Any errors you encounter simply press continue/ignore.

3. go here and download the missing DLL-files directly from download-server:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=12858&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=9bb5527d49a32c8a3ed01289bcd3a8fc

4. try to run updater once again normally, it should have no problem running in graphics mode and simply download an update.txt and nothing else.

I hope this helps.

1. I don\'t know what you mean by copying one file to another, but I\'ve got both files now.

2. Tried it, but doesn\'t work. It simply stops with the same message that it\'s missing a library. (see first post)

3. It\'s missing a VFS plugin. If it is a DLL that\'s missing as you say, which one do I need?

(Btw, I can log into the server without trouble, that\'s where I got libz-cs.dll and libz.dll.)

4. Same thing, it simply won\'t do anything but give the error mentioned.

I\'ve tried downloading and moving the files mentioned in the other thread as well, but didn\'t change a single thing. I believe that\'s a fix for another error. (which I did have before)

Anything else I can try?

Or should I try my luck again with 0.3.005 and use these methods?

The lame thing is Win98 does not give the name of the missing...

Here is something from Moogie FAQ:
28. CB won\'t run because I need MSVCR70.dll! Where can I find it?
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr70 (Download the file and put it in your Planeshift folder.)

--------------------------------------

Ok, if this still does not help maybe another try,
I just tested this with Win98 (OEM, first edition):

1. uninstall planeshift completely

2. install planeshift from original installer

3. Check for msvcr70.dll in your planeshift directory, if it does not exists - download the file from
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr70

4. run updater in DOS-mode, it should now download something and say \"updating the updater\", for any errors which occur press continue/ignore. Updater will then give an error \"cannot continue\"

5. goto your planeshift directory and extract all files from UPDATER.ZIP manually and overwrite the files in your planeshift directory.

6. run updater in DOS-mode, it should now download a lot of stuff again, but you will get 5 error messages that files cannot be provided - simply press continue/ignore again

7. you now must download the 5 missing files manually, see link to other thread about this

8. try to run updater again (in normal mode) and it should work and say \"All files are up-to-date.\"

Great work Ronxena!

I finally gotten it to go into the server after the above steps. The only difference was that instead of 5 missing files, it were 2. (null2d.dll and null3d.dll)

Thx for helping me with this.
