well, imho, the graphics are not as great as I would have hoped compared to MB. One thing is the fact that each player model is split into about 5 or more separate meshes so they sort of look like the arms & legs were sown onto the body, & there is I think a need to improve the textures somewhat for ppl who use higher resolutions then 1024x768 but I do believe the reason that the Graphical content is of a lower or more optimized level is that as of right now there is not much control over optimizing the graphics because yes, it is only a \"tech-demo\" & not a complete work as much as most mmorpg\'s are when the public gets there first glimpse of what\'s to come.
I think that the dev team needs to give users more control over the LOD system now available with Cal3D to lower the detail of Character, & also make more options for to increase performance such as clipping distance were Crystal Space will not render objects & landscape far away, & or have adjustable LOD settings for static geometry. Also, I know that there is an option you can set in Walktest (which is what PS is based on) were you can adjust the texture quality to increase performance.
I think we @ least should have an option to reduce texture detail in the options panel. If you can do it in Walktest, you should be able to have a setting were you can do it in PS! After we can control the texture settings for lower computers, we can have Higher Quality textures for better computers! & @ the rate in which computers are getting faster & less expensive we can make the graphics look better without worrying to much about people not having a fast enough computer. right now you can get a good computer for about $500 or less so I would think a majority of computers of people who want to play planeshift will be able to handle better graphics by the time the PS team can put them out.
So basically the graphics are not as good as they could be however with almost no LOD control options to be able to run on slow computers they are \"ok\".
I do believe that there may be a way now for people to manually set texture detail like you can in walktest, however I need to test it first & it may not work the same as in waktest such as missing dlls or bugs etc. but I hope it will
