Too Hardcore? or not enough?

:) well, imho, the graphics are not as great as I would have hoped compared to MB. One thing is the fact that each player model is split into about 5 or more separate meshes so they sort of look like the arms & legs were sown onto the body, & there is I think a need to improve the textures somewhat for ppl who use higher resolutions then 1024x768 but I do believe the reason that the Graphical content is of a lower or more optimized level is that as of right now there is not much control over optimizing the graphics because yes, it is only a \"tech-demo\" & not a complete work as much as most mmorpg\'s are when the public gets there first glimpse of what\'s to come.

I think that the dev team needs to give users more control over the LOD system now available with Cal3D to lower the detail of Character, & also make more options for to increase performance such as clipping distance were Crystal Space will not render objects & landscape far away, & or have  adjustable LOD settings for static geometry. Also, I know that there is an option you can set in Walktest (which is what PS is based on) were you can adjust the texture quality to increase performance.

I think we @ least should have an option to reduce texture detail in the options panel. If you can do it in Walktest, you should be able to have a setting were you can do it in PS! After we can control the texture settings for lower computers, we can have Higher Quality textures for better computers! & @ the rate in which computers are getting faster & less expensive we can make the graphics look better without worrying to much about people not having a fast enough computer. right now you can get a good computer for about $500 or less so I would think a majority of computers of people who want to play planeshift will be able to handle better graphics by the time the PS team can put them out.

So basically the graphics are not as good as they could be however with almost no LOD control options to be able to run on slow computers they are \"ok\".

I do believe that there may be a way now for people to manually set texture detail like you can in walktest, however I need to test it first & it may not work the same as in waktest such as missing dlls or bugs etc. but I hope it will  ;)

u have all proved me wrong so i addmit it could be the download wasnt copied properly and it could also be the fact that a week after i posted this i found out that my motherboard was damaged which affected many program and other problems..... i also found my powersupply couldnt haddle the potiential of my pc so i had to buy a better one i also found that the fact the motherboard couldnt provide enough power damaged it because of the powersupply. i will have to eventually buy a new motherboard...i think the problem was i installed a wireless network card graphics card and a sound card alll top of the range which it could provide enough power to...so once i buy a new mother board i might format my hardisk and start over. and as confused said i my have a bit of spyware i dont think thats the case....but if u wanna try gimmie some, go for it! but thats all should be fixed soon

didnt think so many would post here...

Personally I would like much better graphics. why should we pander to the lowest common denominator. I saved my money for a long time to have a smokin system, and I would like to see some smokin graphics with it.

Waving grass fields would be nice, sorta like whats in swg. I mean there are some awesome graphical mmorpgs out there folks. Sure this one is free so I don\'t expect it to be of the same quality, but why should we let the people with the lower quality systems decide for us?

You guys can\'t play doom3, halo2, or half life 2, either, so suck it up. perhaps it\'s time for an upgrade?

go mow a few lawns kiddies.

ACK. While it should maintain options to turn off the fancy stuff, the stuff should be there. PS shouldn\'t stay behind graphics-wise. In fact, it should always be state-of-the-art in all respects, and fancy graphics are part of this.

As I said on another thread, there will always be people whose computers can\'t handle PS, no matter how low PS may go.

For moving grass: in fact, the grass should also move if someone passes through it, not just due to wind. This way, invisible people will need to think a tad more. :)

Dude if anything this game needs better graphics, not worse. Also my friend is into coding and stuff and he said the system reqs are too high because the coding isnt optimised or somthing.

No one here is talking about making PlaneShift run on a 80286 but there are worse ideas than keeping the net wide and making sure that PlaneShift can run on some less-than-recent hardware.

I would also like to say at this point that I am running PlaneShift on a 633MHz Celeron with 128MB of RAM and GeForce FX5200 128MB. Performance isn\'t exactly brilliant  but its quite playable. Oh, and I am \'loading all maps\'.

I also chose to reserve judgment on the graphics quality at this stage since the Devs seem to be focusing their collective attention on code and features at this stage, not graphics.

@supergrover: Theres no way in the nine hells that you could ever hope to even begin to understand the financial situation of someone you\'ve never met and who probably lives in another country from you, please don\'t pretend to.

@supergrover
Time for an update you say? I don\'t know about others, but it took me 5 years to buy my own comp which was good at the time of purchase, it\'s been 3 years since and I still have 2 more years to go before I can even think of another upgrade.

As Asenuth said, \"Theres no way in the nine hells that you could ever hope to even begin to understand the financial situation of someone you\'ve never met and who probably lives in another country from you, please don\'t pretend to.\"
Depending on region, financial situation or even personal interest, people might just even want to play this game without spending a forture just for this one game, I don\'t think many parents would agree to buying their child 1GB of ram just so that they can play ONE game.

Better graphics can come later, when the artist draws them and maybe when level of detail can be set.

@everyone else
PS can certainly use better graphics, but if it isn\'t adjustable then my poor little GF2 will melt =P

At the moment the artist are probably already doing the best they can to make the game look nice, if they didn\'t want to spend the effort then CB could have potentially looked like a whole lot of box art(multi coloured boxes with nothing descriptive about it... See BZFlag for example =P).
I like taking things literally, going overboard is fun! Now... why do I keep getting odd looks?
