I'm havin' some download problems...
« on: May 06, 2005, 03:26:18 pm »
I find Planeshift, and think, YAY! I get that bittorrent thing, and download it:

Okay, thats done. I\'d had some problems downloading it before, and yay! It FINALLY worked! I go \'open\', and the usual thing comes up:

Not a problem, alright, dandy. Excitments high, I will finally play the game after a month of attemptted downloads and:

Ooookay... 0.o Thats not right... I go ignore and another one comes up:

No planeshift for me. After an internal rage I was smart enough not to make public, I log onto here as fast as I can, make an account, and calmly try to explain my problem.

Now I will wait for everyone to flame me and say I\'m a dumb noob who ought to check other posts first cause my problem has been solved before. That gives me an excuse to destroy my computer in a flying rage... anyway...

I suggest you to use BitComet instead of the official BitTorrent Client. The official needs some reading to understand how it works but BitComet is more userfriendly just give it a try.
Are there any MoonSeekers left?

Did this solve the issue?
Because it seemed to me like if you were trying to execute the archive without having the bittorrent client installed. And there\'s the reason of the error, the system doesn\'t recognize the archive and doesn\'t know what to do with it.
Try to use BitComet as I said as it\'s easier to use than Bittorrent and download the real ps client (not the torrent archive only).

That\'s what I thought (s)he was doing, but I figured (s)he\'d notice the fact that the .torrent was less than a megabyte in filesize. o.0

I prefer Azureus for my torrenting needs, simply because it keeps all torrents in a single window, rather than a bunch of download windows.  I don\'t know if BitComet does this or not.  The only clients I know of that use one window are ABC and Azureus...
But that\'s just my opinion.

Anyway, yeah.  The .torrent file is only something like a text file with information regarding the filesize, name, address of tracker, some ECC (error checking code) etc.  BitTorrent allows you to pause a download, close a download window entirely and restart it, and if you have a server you can even host your own torrents. :)

To clear up any confusion about the BitTorrent method of downloading things, take a look here, they have a graphical representation of how it works.

And if you already knew all this stuff, then sorry for patronizing you. ~_~;
