The cost isnt shown, only the Progression Points needed is shown by the blue bar.  :) (at least you know if you have enough of them)

Note: when you dont have enough Trias and so nothing happens when you click, check your System Tab, it will be marked something there.

I've been trying to find an example of a complete 1 level upgrade to a skill.  Everyone keeps pointing to the color chart and explaination of Theoretical and Practical with progression points, but what does it actually take to go from level 0 to 1 in a skill?  Seems like this should have been done in the tutorial instead of learning how to make ore hot...  I've been playing for about a 3-4 days and haven't raised any of my skills yet, just running around doing "errands" for experience and putting my progression points into skills without seeing results.

So for an example, right now I have 9 progression points and I want to move a skill from level 0 to 1.  If my bar looks like it does in the help/FAQs posted, blue 3/4 way full, yellow 1/2 and green 1/4, what exactly needs to occur?  From what I understand, I need to put enough progression points into the skill to move the green bar to the yellow, which is there a visual rule that helps determine how much that would be?  Is a full bar of green = 16 progression points at level 0?  And so 16*30 = 480 Tiras is how much money you'd need?  And then do I need to practice the skill until the blue bar gets to the end of the red bar or will the yellow bar go to the end of the red bar and then I'll need to put more progression points into the skill again?  I'm not sure why this is so secretive, why it is something we need to figure out.  The reason I ask is I've had lots of progression points and I've spread them out amongst different skills thinking each progression point means 1 level increase, but instead after 3-4 days, I'm still level 0 and feel like I'm getting no where.  Now it looks like I'm going to go broke just leveling up one of my skills.  It seems like it'll take 30 progression points just to move one skill up one level, but it would have been nice to know from the beginning.  I've also read that some veterans have 6000 progression points and don't really need them anymore, which makes me believe that it is ridiculous to have skill leveling be such an abstract mystery in the beginning and then become obsolete later on.  What is a good skill level, too, does it go from 0-100?

Thanks

The blue bar will only be longer than the yellow bar if you have enough progression points to fully train the stat. If you have enough, and enough Trias, then you go to a trainer to buy training. When the yellow bar is full, then you can begin to train the skill by doing whatever the skill entails. For instance, in order to train the Sword skill, I would have to use swords against an opponent. Melee is always a good stat to train  :)

Okay, I think I'm almost there.  So the Yellow bar does not have to go to the end, covering the Red, that gap is for practical experience and that gap decreases as you use the skill.  For measurement, if the blue bar is twice as big as the yellow bar and I have 10 pp, then it would take 5 pp to cover up the yellow bar with green, to fully "learn" that skill.  Then to get rid of the Red, I can practice the skill, which sort of shrinks the Red bar or grows the green bar and once the red is gone, the skill will increase.  That makes sense now if that is how it is done.  So then the skills that don't have any Red are the ones that I've been using the most and should be the easiest to level up?  Since I'm mostly an errand dwarf with no weapons, been punching things to death, melee and my stats may be my best use of PP for leveling things up and I need to start figuring out other skills to practice if I want to progress as a weapon smith.  Once the learning curve is gone, hopefully things will feel like they're moving along in the game.

Thanks

Stats are different than skills in that they go up as you pay for them whereas skills need to be practiced once the training level has been fully paid for in tria and pps.

Skills required for weapon smith are the blacksmith and (specific) weapon making skills. The specific weapon making skills include swords, axes, knife and daggers, maces,  bows and I think pole arms. I believe only the first three are currently implemented and their requirements may differ from previously stated. It helps to have metallurgy and mining but they are not required, if you do not have either you will be dependent on other people for your materials.

I hope I did not miss anything.

Ah okay, I figured I was going to improve my charisma by being so charming and nice running errands all the time, scratch that thought then.  I wanted to make a gigantic, magical hammer, but maybe will have to resort to axe for the time being.

Thanks for the feedback, can't wait to try it out later on.

uh huh....
so metallurgy requires practicing once i get green to fill the yellow and begin on red?
well if i throw in some iron ore to make iron then how can i turn that into ingots to make weapons with my blacksmith skill

if ye ask me its incredibly difficult to train a level 2 skill
cmon, its level 2 why should i have to fight rats for 30 hours to get to level 3?

kind of backwards when you think about the higher levels aquiring more xp per kill and not even needing to have all the pps to get a higher skill
10 hours of killing rogues to go up to level 10 skill vs 30 hours killing rats to get level 2
whew... doesnt seem balanced in that respect

but atleast now i can just figure out how to get my red to disappear i can get from 0 to level 1 and make it useful

Eh.. Be patient. You'll need to go up at least 5 or 10 levels in a skill to see a difference - maybe 15 or so for magic.

As far as leveling/fighting goes, try teaming up with other characters - you can /invite them into a group and fight as a team.

Try asking more experienced characters ( like those with heavy armor, magic powers and spiffy helmets ) for advice ICly.

Rigwyn wipes the blade off with a black piece of cloth, slips it back into his sheath, nods and walks merrily towards the tria fountain for a wash.
