Vileneck's trial was a strange event. Several people were - at least - surprised that at first any speaking was prohibited, and - in contrast to the Jelkaf brothers, who were sentenced to death by the Crystal's radiation - only got a rather mild punishment of being banned from Hydlaa and Eagle doors, due to an advanced illness, close to death.

Her highness, Queen Lolitra Hollinthy Purrty of Printh, was fortunately wise enough to protest only by standing up and finally leaving; less fortunate were lady Arinin, the elderly dwarf who posed as bait for the Night Rogue earlier, as well as the Peloosey sisters, who tried to reveal a possible location of a last missing magic staff ... so the court shall not be surprised that rumours are now spreading, they would not even be interested in the truth, and prosecuting the real employer of the theft and the resulting crimes.

Even I got imprisoned. For answering a question from my neighbor. The guards really went haywire banishing anyone they caught talking. They didn't even pay attention to the reason, or the content in the case of the Peloosey sisters. Is the court under a spell, or just blinded by paragraphs?

[Reread the crimes. The Jelkef brothers committed many crimes that merit True Death. Vileneck did not commit one. No killing he did ended in True Death. He did not use poisons or magics that would end a person's life in truth Death. He did not plot to overthrow the government. His crimes were thief, assault and killing (not the same as murder, as the people came back), etc. His max sentence would have been life in prison (two weeks for him). Without the staff, he is as weak as an old man, and could not wrestle a child and win. His body was destroyed by the warped power of the staff and the fight with the guards. Banishing him was a far worse punishment than imprisoning him, as his life might have been extended with care in the prison. They basically cast him to the wolves. It was the audience that was not listening. As for the reason for the arrests, that was not the time or place to bring up points or new evidence, as mentioned in another thread. The public was there to witness the sentence, not be jury. The sisters were interviewed later, one was banished for a week for her involvement with the Night Rogue's plot, and further knowledge was added to the investigations still going on to find the possible mastermind behind the plots. As with keeping the plan to capture the rogue secret, perhaps it would have been very bad for the sisters to say where the last staff might be in pubic, so as to tip any spies off to an ongoing investigation. The guards are not inept, they are just drawn that way. ;)

My advice is to have your characters look at the events a little closer, rather than getting outraged at what is seen on the surface.]

[edit to below: Understood. The above comment was also not about the player getting outraged, but the character, just to clearify. (and to give folks a little hint on what is really going on). Carry on.]

[just on an ooc note - why was it advertised as the trial and not the sentencing? if it were not the actual trial? - it may have stopped a lot of ic reactions at the "trial"

I still say it was a great event though - and look forward to many more like it! I for one though - will be a little more guarded on my /me actions - and will probably say once [/tell me if you wish to participate in /me reactions in this so as not to disturb those who otherwise don't wish to see your /me 's]]

[I believe it was an extraordinary event, and kind of OOC. It was to demonstrate what Yliaki justice was like, I would be surprised to see many more trials. As far as the /me's, go, I think it was the nature of this event that caused me to find them objectionable, Generally speaking it is fine. It just seemed a little bit lacking in the proper decorum for a courtroom. I would not worry about it overmuch. That is just me,others looked more favorably upon it.

I certainly do not expect to see players on the docket. ]

[We went with an inquisitorial system instead of the modern (and more common) adversarial system.

Also, note that reactions from the players are expected, maybe not to every single thing but players are meant to be part of the event as well. In the case of a trial, unless they are witnesses or defendants, they can't really do more than watch and react silently but those entries add interest to the event.

As guard duties evolve, it is expected that more criminals will be processed in the future as we connect other events with The Hand of Law. We might not be able to have trials every week but it's only logical that they should take place every so often. Also note that current content (as IC laws) and game mechanics will evolve as we get a deeper insight on this so suggestions are always welcome.]

Eurac wonders why everybody seems to think that this is over?
