Back to the idea of guilds controlling cities...
Why not organise every month a tournament, in which all guilds could fight, and the winners become administrators of a town ?
Each town would need a definite number of administrators (a duke, a count or a mayor for each, his followers, and guards). For each town there would be a tournament, where the selection will be different for each town : 30 vs 30 for one, 5 vs 5 for a second one, 1 vs 1 for a third one, wisards vs wisards for a fourth one, and other competitions, like relay races, poems, stupid but funny games like \"the one that will be able to bring back the most original creature to a certain place\"... This could make really entertaining events, but of course they would need the GM to be there to be judges.
To go on with my idea, once your guild won a competition, they gain control over a town or a region. They get short-time titles, like \"Lord of ThisTown\" or \"Guard of ThisTown\", maybe the guild makes money, or they get some extra power...
I know my idea is still a little disorderly, but I am sure we can exctract some good in it if discussing it
