@Irgendwer: Obviously Falcon Avian is being funny but in your righteous ire you seem to have missed this most basic point. ::) This begs the question, if you do not RP yourself, why do you play a role playing game where you are actually expected to play out a character and not just grind? There are hundreds of MMOs you can play without running into a particularly vocal RP community. If anything this makes you silly. On the RP server, non RPer are the ones that would have more influence, just like on the non RP server, RPers have very little say in what goes on. If you have a problem, go to EZPC that's the whole point for it's existence.

@Everyone else: Like I said in another thread. It's a shame to need mechanics to remind people this isn't just your average MMO. But, without the former community around to be an example, you have to do stuff like this.

Except for quests I suppose .. all that runnin around for nothin...

*sigh*

And that silly R P thing that some players do .. but thats gay! I wont do that dammit !

And while you are at it, please destroy all taverns as well. I don't know of anything else in Yliakum that nearly stops RP in its tracks more than that people gather at taverns to live their social life all day. Or maybe just implement a limit on how many beverages a single player may order from Allelia per day.

Seriously. Do you roleplayers actually think first before claiming that feature X will/would/does harm/benefit RP(tm)? Sure, let's take furnaces away and while we are at it, also monsters and heck, best quests, too.  Once there is nothing else to do in the game, people will surely start roleplaying (whatever that actually means) out of pure boredom. Thumbs up. Oh and maybe we could even limit the world to just the tavern, so people don't miss any of the excitement that comes from exploring all the different ways in which carousing can be roleplayed.

Nobody is in any of the taverns these days because Telnavi and running her fancy-shmancy adults-only RCD. :P *pokes "Telnavi" with a Kissiri*

Even though you stereotype RPers as people who want to destroy everything that includes building skills and stats, I think you make a great point at people being able to RP as they do something that builds their skills. Take people like Hagyrtyr or however you spell his name, and Keela. They RP as they do work, and at the same time are a cute little couple. Of course there are many PL'er that I could name, who just like to be annoying and not RP at all. Those are the stubborn ones with high stats that just need to restart in Ezpcusa. I do think that people are limiting themselves to Hydlaa too much. Even though I argue with him too much, I admire how Akkaido mostly hangs out in Ojaveda more than anybody else, because he looks out for the place, or Illysia and Elady who would usually be taking care of Stonehead. When it comes to doing things according to a characters job or status in society, I think that these RPers need to spread out more, but the problem with that is that they will probably just end up RPing with themselves because the player count is so darn low. I mean, there is nothing wrong with RPing with ones self, I do it all the time, but in the end it gets tiring after a while, and lonely too.

Anyways, I wandered off topic, don't burn the furnaces, burn the idiots who abuse it and won't stop.

I can understand your sentiments on furnaces. There are, however, a few more factors to consider.

Firstly, taking out furnaces won't happen, crafting is part of PS, full stop. This basically comes down to the old issue of PL vs RP. Someone mentioned a timer. That's what mental and physical stamina are there for. The trouble is, if you limit the time on furnace use, you'll have to limit the time for things like hunting and cooking, to keep the balance. You want to see the players up in arms? Limit the time they get to pummel monsters.

The core issue behind this is to motivate actual RP. At the moment, leveling is the only way to physically progress you character. RP is fun, but its all make-believe really. What I envisage is a system where RP actually increases your stats. That way, people won't mind hopping off to the tavern after a hard days work for a bit of R 'n' R. If you can come up with a way to do that, you'll have a winner. But the solution to promoting RP is not getting rid of mechanics. That's counter-productive.

Yeah there should be a timer on all that other stuff too.  :D

The thing about having RP physically progress your character would be quite difficult to do when it comes to most RP being between two players. I could see quests very slightly causing some stats to go up, and I think that on some of the more time-consuming and difficult quests should bump up a certain stat by a few points. Though you really can't RP with npc's that much, and when you do, it is when a GM is on and they are getting bored.

Just to ease the concerns of my brother and since I feel the polite complaints in matter are mainly caused by me, I'd like to assure falcon avian that I'm *pretending*  Boeven is passing all his time by the furnace,  because RP needs I'm literally growing out from nowhere in the past of character. Furthermore Boeven is eager to help lost travelers, pushing aside all his concerns. and the only furnace has seen in weeks was near Harnquist, where newcomers are popping out these weeks and are desperately in need of someone who can smelt some boring ore for some quest (IC, obviously...). He's trying to learn being a good metallurgist, hopefully a nice crafter, is learning the crystal way and is not a good fighter at all.
as a side note, my impression is nobody wants to learn metallurgy because is a monstruous task, and there are a lot of people out there with no patience at all.
I'm sure someone in chat knows, because I'm repeating this ad nauseam, that I'm not english native nor particularly fond in this language. Every word won't come out (yet) from my keyboard so easily, and that obviously doesn't help me in... improving Boeven's social attitudes.
I even have a RL and a job and not much time being Boeven. so...
What you see is not always what you get.

Destroy all the furnaces... go ahead, and you'll see a Boeven rising from the ashes. Or you'll have a lot of characters deleted.
And IMHO power leveling is not a concern, is a way to build up the character using the mechanics of PS. In this game who is the Master, after all?

PS:
I feel that guild policy discussions are not precisely matter of this thread. whoever wants to start a flame war, please, in another thread :)

You destroy the furnace, they'll be at the oven all day.

You destroy the tavern, they'll be in the plaza all day.

We should just get rid of everything and make the whole thing one flat plane where no one does anything, ever.

I don't know of anything else in Yliakum that nearly stops RP in its tracks more than that furnace everyone spends all day at. It's very annoying that people "RP" using the furnace all day because it's their job. At the very least add a time limit on it until their character becomes too hot to use the furnace anymore. I want at least SOMEONE in my guild to rp other than me I swear if it wasn't for Leraider I would have left the guild by now because it's just filled with metallurgy power levelers.  :@#\

Lower the prices of  300q stocks. Better yet if 300q stocks does not exist at all

I happen to like 300q stocks, they come in handy when you want to make good q weapons.
