Age and aging
« on: April 15, 2004, 07:06:09 am »
I think it would be cool to have a natural birth, aging, and death process in PS. PCs could start out at about age 5, and they could require a certain amount of protection from a \"family\" of NPCs or other adult guardians up until the age of accountability (which, with this being a \"medeival\" game, could be about 15 years old). The same 3D model could be used for every age version of the PC, starting out with a very small version and making it grow larger over time, until it levels out at whatever age is appropriate for the given race.

There could be a separate set of quests and jobs for children, which would enable them to start building up XPs toward adulthood.

Once a PC reached old age, abilities would be effected, movement slowed, etc. Hair color could be changed to grey. Eventually, the PC could get a warning message, saying \"Due to the natural results of the aging process, this character will soon die.\"

This could enable the developers to include a system for wills, undertaker services, and other death-related issues.

It would also keep gamers aware of the value of life and the mortality of people--something which is lacking in other MMORPGs.

[[ Edit ]] -- After posting, I found this within the \"Compilation of Ideas\": Stages of Age/Experience (old thread, similar idea).

Sorry about not doing the search before starting the new thread.

I would delete it if I could, but I don\'t know how...also, isn\'t there any way to make it more obvious if there\'s been a previous posting on a topic? I did a search, but that one didn\'t show up for me.

Well, Kraxton. Unfortunately there\'s noone who really bothers modding this part of the forum (even though Mogura is a mod here, she spends more time doing the other forums (which is good still, since that\'s where all the spamming usually is)). What there\'s really needed is something like a Wish list-only mod who can concentrate about old threads and letting people know if something has already been discussed, etc.... Anyway, enough of my oppinions. You can always just edit your first post up there, and show a link to that old post and say \"Sorry, didn\'t see it with the first search\", and then leave it as that.

Edit: Oh yes, you can\'t delete posts because you\'re not a forum moderator. :)
