Signing off
« on: November 14, 2004, 09:39:25 pm »
I think to give it a better feel of the game before you can sign off u  have to make a camp or be in a hotel ( witch would bring more business ) You can buy a tent from a merchant and set it up then u can sign off.Thats just my thought it be cool if u had that ability

You would have to press a button and u  have like a % to get the tent rite. The better the tent the easyer it is to set it up. To go to a hotel ud have to pay a fee and u wouldnt have the %.

Would this be more annoying than the \"wait time\" that some games have before you\'re allowed to log off?

What if you have to log off in the middle of nowhere and don\'t have a tent? What if you don\'t have time to watch your character put it up? Wouldn\'t this become tedius after the first 20 or so times?

On the plus side, though, you could also use your house as an alternative to using a tent or a hotel.

...hmm... first idea I\'ve ever been undecided about. :D

What if my PC crashes? Do I remain logged in and easy prey for monsters, or do I dissapear. Also after you log out does your tent remain? Imagine Hydlaa plaza covered in row upon row of tents.

well if ur pc crash or close window u reappear where u lasted tented( but ud still have ur items u had when u crashed) or the last hotel you stayed at  and yeah ur house would be good also. But see tents would not cost that much / the price for a house and hotel that varys. You also have the town spawn area if you never stayed i in a tent or a hotel or own a house.

When you set up a tent you enter it then u have the option to sit there and rest ( rest heal stamina / health ect... faster recovery) or you can log out and when u log u disappear

There will be certain areas for tents like no tents in towns/ cities , ud have to camp  say under a tree out side the wall of the city or boundries ect..

I think that if your PC crashes or you alt+F4 or something, you will be magically \"teleported\" to the nearest inn or hotel, unless you were in your house or in a tent. To prevent the system being taken advantage of, the teleporting system will have a toll, and the player will have to pay for it once they log in again. The toll will be a percent of their current income, so its fair for everyone, like 10%. This may suck for disconnects, but it will prevent players from hitting a big monster with an arrow, logging off, then going back to shoot the monster again, repeating until its dead. This way, we can also \"assume\" that every player is on PS, just the non active ones are sleeping in the inns.

[Edit: Hopefully, this service will be free if the server crashes.]

What about the thousands upon thousands of characters that are created, played with for 1 hour, then log out never to be seen again? Will their tents litter the world in the hopes that one day the character might return?

Olig, I think that would be too unfair on people who use dialup or are with unreliable ISP\'s or on unstable systems. It\'s enough that they d/c so often, without the pain of having to pay a penalty because of it. I think this would drive a very large percentage of PS fans away, very quickly.

I cannot see that working. Too many problems and ways to get around it. I dont mind the \"wait time,\" every game needs it for obvious reasons.

Won\'t it be more viable to have the tent for recovery and also as a savepoint?
I do not know how the current system is going to work, but if they are sent back to the nearest non-hostile area each time they start then it might be feasable to setup a tent so that they can continue from where they left off the next time they continue.

As for people shooting a strong monster and running away, can the system be set so that tents can only be made at non-hostile areas?
I guess what I am stating is similar to Final Fantasy II(US)/IV(JAP), where they may save anywhere in the overworld but can\'t save without a savepoint in the middle of a stage.
There can also be an equation which checks if the player can beat that monster easily, if a player is strong enough then they should be able to camp in hostile territories which aren\'t a threat to them.

I like taking things literally, going overboard is fun! Now... why do I keep getting odd looks?

Waiting for your character to do all the stuff would just really piss people off. Its a ok idea but people will want to kill you after a while.
