Part I: Operation
Scratching, scraping. Cutting, breaking.
A man-made (well, dwarf-made, actually) knife scraped a long, thick stick, smoothing the thing out. The object now formed into a long non-hollow pipe shape. The knive scraped over all edges of the thing until it was a long, smooth cylinder.
The dwarf examined his work, and blew some wood shavings off of the piece. He then took a long, narrow shard of glass from his bag, and the dwarf began to hollow out the inside of the object. This was going to take some time...
Looking around his surroundings, Uloim (yes, Uloim Oakenshade) closely examined everything - the trees, the tall grass, the circular mushroom patches. And as he did this, the dwarf continued the same motion, screwing the glass shard into the wooden cylinder.
\"Ghhe!\" escaped the lips of the dwarf, who was now looking at the drop of blood hanging weakly from his own large finger. An idea struck his mind, and he stroked his finger against the long stick, creating various symbols with his blood. Finally, the item was hollow in one half of the entire project! And what was this project? If one watches and pays attention, one will know soon enough.
And so the dwarf carefully began to hollow out the other side of the stick, looking around at his surroundings again. The old home of the Glyph salesman was nearby, only around a corner. Uloim could smell something, perhaps a new brew that was being made by the Glyphmaker.
Aha! The item was completely hollow! The dwarf smoothed the insides out, and looked through the thing with one eye. He smiled, for the hardest part was done.
So, the dwarf made X type marks in certain places along one side of the item. Around the markings, Uloim shaved away at the stick, until he created a hole that connected to the hollow tube in the middle of the stick. He did this in many different places, and was just about done.
Done with what? Why, the flute of course.
