BitTorrent Downloader Taking DAYS?!
« on: June 19, 2005, 06:09:17 am »
I just started downloading the game . Im running a 1GB RAM , LAN computer in tip top shape . Should it be taking this long? Is there any other way i can get this besides BitTorrent? It currently estimates 4 days . Will it decrease?

It depends on the number of \"seeders\" online. If there aren\'t any people with a complete (or partial) client that you can download from, it will take a long time. However, since people live in different time zones, they may not have their computers on. I suggest leaving it on for a day. I suspect it will be finished by the end of it.

Yes, Dreu1.  That is stupid of you. :P I kid, I kid.  But many people have had trouble with the mirrors on the official PlaneShift site, so I usually direct them to the BitTorrent downloads.

*points at her sig*  As you can see, I at least do my seeding part.  According to Azureus there are currently 3231 seeders and 4451 leechers.  That ratio ain\'t too bad. ;)
Are you behind a firewall, router, or some other....uh....thingie that might block ports?  I\'ll assume so since you say you are on a LAN.  If you can, try opening ports 6881-6889.  They are most typically used by BT clients.  (to access your router\'s settings, type 192.168.0.1 into your browser\'s address bar)  What OS and BT client are you running?

Finally, sometimes it takes a while for your BT client to get information about your download, so it appears to go slowly in the beginning, but after maybe five to ten minutes the pace quickens a great deal.  At least that\'s how it went for me. (I\'m using a 802.11b AP that\'s connected via cable modem, so my connection isn\'t the fastest, but it\'s okay)

If I may make a suggestion: if you\'re new to BitTorrent downloading, use Azureus.  It provides a much more detailed overview of how your download is going than the official client.  And with a Gig of RAM in your system, it doesn\'t drain resources all that much. :)

O_O

Maiden Indigo you\'re scaring me...
How can you know the address of the router? I guess the only thing you can take for sure is that it\'s a private IP address and, in most cases it will end with .1, but why 192.168.0.1 ??

Btw jpjuga keep with the torrent, that\'s you way to ensure a correct file, Maiden already said that most of the mirrors have bad copies of the file, afaik only Platyna\'s site has been proved to be 100% reliable, also Platyna\'s trying to contact admins to change those mirrors on the main site but i don\'t know if this has been corrected yet.
So keep the torrent on, after all you\'ll require lots of patiente when playing this game...

That is generally the default address for any router, unless the user actually goes about changing it at some point.

edit: All right, all right.  That is the address I\'ve seen several Netgear and Belkin routers use.  Happy now? :P

Not true. Maybe your router company uses that, but it differs based on the router and company. Yes, addresses are usually similar to that, but if it\'s one number off it doesn\'t work. :P

The last three routers I\'ve had had the following addresses (the last 2 were wireless):
192.168.1.1
10.0.1.1
192.168.11.1

EDIT: So, to determine your router\'s IP, open your network control panel and root around in there. I\'m sorry I can\'t be more specific but my PC is... not here. *pats Mac* Perhaps someone with a PC on hand?
