If i'm getting this right, Karyuu's saying (more simple explanation) that if you want to make an armor which "stands out" you'll have to shape your model and it's bodyparts. Modelling these models is pretty tough, Talad has the originals, and it''ll take time with, lots of errors, if you somehow manage to get them.
Now, you don't make the weapon out of a body part, it's completely seperated from the body, therefore you can put it in your hand like you do with a mug. Unlike the shoulderpad the body isn't reshaped when you equip the sword, and it's much easier to model a sword then reshape a finished body at least decently to your liking.
