Designing Fayodin's armor
« on: August 18, 2006, 07:24:51 pm »
Hi all.  I was wondering if it is possible for someone to add some things to my armor.  [having a hard time explaining this].  for instance, someone made the pickaxe avatar look like a bow so when you changed the file you would hold the bow.  I am wondering if someone could do this with my armor...except instead of changing the entire avatar just add a couple nifty things like weapon holsters that when i replace a file i get to see on my char.   PM me if you can over the forums or IG [fayodin]

Anything that would require a mesh change will more likely than not require having the original mesh to modify, and those are in Talad's possession. So if you want to add actual 3D elements to your armor, it's practically impossible without a ridiculous amount of time and trial and error to make sure everything matches. If you are only requiring a texture change (the armor is still flat), that's a lot easier and only requires someone with free time and texture skills :]

That wouldn't quite work either - unless you're going to remodel the whole character. This is because the model is made up of different mesh pieces - head, arms, torso, legs, etc., and if you are wanting a different torso you are going to have to make sure that it attaches perfectly and seamlessly to the other appendages. Again, this requires a ton of time and trial and error if you do not have the original to work with within your 3D application :>

*edit*

Unless I totally misunderstood and you were just talking about a texture change :P Woops!

The bow required just making a new mesh and making sure it's of a reasonable size - the only thing it had to match was the correct hands of the character model, and the character wasn't wearing it instead of a regular body part. It was just in his/her hands, so for example it didn't have to connect perfectly to the neck area and make sure the arm pieces were in the proper place and that the legs attached. It was just making a bow model, scaling it, positioning it in the correct angle (so it wouldn't face sideways for example), and replacing it with any current equipable item model. It's a lot simpler.

If i'm getting this right, Karyuu's saying (more simple explanation) that if you want to make an armor which "stands out" you'll have to shape your model and it's bodyparts. Modelling these models is pretty tough, Talad has the originals, and it''ll take time with, lots of errors, if you somehow manage to get them.

Now, you don't make the weapon out of a body part, it's completely seperated from the body, therefore you can put it in your hand like you do with a mug. Unlike the shoulderpad the body isn't reshaped when you equip the sword, and it's much easier to model a sword then reshape a finished body at least decently to your liking.

Is that what you meant, Karyuu? Just so I also can tag along this discussion ^_^
