a) Try \"safe\" mode, which does not use those drivers.  This should display better also if you have glitches on your screen.  It should also be faster if your OpenGL drivers do not use h/w acceleration.  (H/w acceleration is like using a calculator instead of paper&pencil to do math.)

b) If \"safe\" mode is better, go to the web and try to find updated video drivers for your card.  You can determine your video card by right clicking on the My Computer icon and selecting Properties.  Then go to the Devices tab and you will see Video Display Adapter as a choice (I think).  That is the device whose new driver you seek.

Hopefully that will help some of you with display problems.

Good luck,

No offense, but I shouldn\'t have listened to you. I updated my video driver the wrong way, and guess what: I HAD TO FORMAT C:!!!!!!!!
Sorry, getting a bit angry.

you can find out your video card by going into display properties and then clicking on settings.

you probably just need a driver update.

I\'ve got 3d blaster banshee and I tried updating, but... take a look at my other posts.

All modern cards support OpenGL, sicne OpenGL and direct X are teh main standards now days, although Direct X is more popular. Things like Glide3D and such are now long gone, people who have old Voodoo2 chip based graphic cards, and probably voodoo3\'s would have problems since they wouldnt support OpenGL (well my old computers card never did, then again Voodoo is no longer in buisness).

Id suggest upgradeing to at least a 32meg card either a Geforce or a a Raedeon(sp?) since they support OpenGL. Card costs are coming down all the time, and with the release of cards like the geForce4, the older cards will become even cheper than they curently are.

Safe mode runs useing software mode, ie. your CPU does all teh graphical work, and if you havent got a fast CPU (im talking about at least a 800mhz) then you will get crap framerate in this demo.

If you install new video drivers and end up having to reformate yoru HD you have a major problem with your machine, or you dont realy know what your doing ^^...

Umm... Hi.
I am a new player of planeshift, and I just wanted to tell you.... IT DOESN\'T WORK!!! Each time I start it, it loads the world and everything ( after 5 mins on a cable modem) then it is really laggy. I can\'t even see my character much less move him. It takes 2minutes and 32 seconds for me to type one word and ( I\'m not sure if I have said this enough) IT IS WAY TOO LAGGY!!! If anyone else has this problem or knows a way to solve it... just tell me

I apologize... I guess I should have specified that you must install the video driver \"the right way\".  I\'ll try to be more specific next time.  :-)

If you do mess up your drivers though, you should still be able to boot in \"safe mode\" in Windows 95 or later and switch out the bad driver again though without reformatting.

Well, my comp was already quite messed up without the problems with my card, but now i\'ve formatted, i\'ve reinstalled everything and Planeshift works, so: :D:D

I have 1600 mhz and it\'s still lagging the shit out of me in safe mode, besides I have Windows XP which doesn\'t support openGL X(
It worked in openGL mode the first time I ran it and it didn\'t lag that wonderful time.
