More Races/Classes & Combining Them.

You know, I was sitting here thinking for a background story for my character Komie, and I thought of a kick ass story. I dont want to tell to much, but he\'s from Heaven and Hell. Sorta like Half Demon and Half Angel...but then it struck me, Planeshift dosn\'t have Angels or Demons, and plus my character looks like a kitty (Enki)...

So then I started thinking, there should be other Races in the game, such as Vampire, Demon, and Angel...and they could have some unique abilities.

Like Vampires can have a special ability where they drain life from their enemies and their HP goes up some. Also Angels could be like ultimate healers and stuff like that. And Demons should be able to like, gain a +5 strength bonus during the night and stuff.

And the ability to combine classes would be cool, so then my character could be half demon and half angel.

Ooh and we could have frog people, that would like breathe under water and stuff like that, and would be uber-cool flycatchers!

And we could have manscorpions, that could have +8 tails of destruction, with poison that kills people, and they could have a high moving rate but be totally vulnerable to alcohol!

And, ooh, we could have harpies, that could, like, fly around and stuff, and have wicked high charisma!

And we could have nymphs, and code it to where people really had the saving throws to where if they saw one they would get entranced and if one disrobed they could just up and die!

And, ooh, ooh....!

I could go on and on. Do you see the problem? A neat backstory and a guild could accomodate your wishes without the Dev. team having to stop what they\'re doing to make everyone their own cool character.

lol yea i see your story..but lets not go over board..i\'m not talking about making tons and tons of new races and stuff, i\'m talking maybe 3 or 4 more races, ones that are mythological and races that people have actually heard of. I mean dont get me wrong, i love creativity and have tons of respect for the developers and what their doing, I just think it would be a cool idea if we could have some races like that. Like what would be the equilivant of an angel and a demon out of all the races that are planning on being put into Planeshift?

Acctualy I dislike this idea, I think as many races/classes there are is good for now, such as knight  and rouge ext.

The equivalent of a demon would be a diabolus. The equivalent of an angel, I could only guess, would be either a good-aligned diabolus (so far unheard of but not unthinkable to an adventurous role-player) or something not native to Yliakum (a planewalker). You could also work in something in your backstory and look like something else entirely. For example, I\'m an Ynnwn, half demon and half gray elf. There are no gray elves in PlaneShift. See what I mean? If you want to be a vampire just be one of those weird-looking Xacha and skin yourself some pointy teeth. Just say you\'re masquerading as one of them cos of your pale skin and you\'re the son of a diabolus and some travelling celestial from another plane. It could happen. The point I was trying to make is that no matter how good your idea is, if they do it for one person, they have to do it for everyone to maintain fairness. And, incidently, everything I named came straight from a 2nd edition D&D Monstrous Manual. I wasn\'t just making up critters no one has ever heard of.

Ummm.... Diaboli.. and this has been discussed many times... in the WISH LIST forum.

Ugghhhh! I\'ve become everything I always hated! I hate people who rag on others about the right forum.

Anyways.. I think there needs to be more jobs- Lumberjack, Fur trader are both necessities.

Well, take Rubies for Eventide for example... over 100 classes!! And all quite diverse... it can be done... but in my opinion, just not in CB, next release perhaps??

Well, Imo they since they have Diaboli usually associated by being ?demon-like? for there Hellish homeworld & red skin, it is only fare that there be a ?angel-like? race,

My Char is actually a Seraphim (Six winged angel of the heist rank) who used to travel the infinite universes but got struck by an odd lightning & is now stuck in Yliakum, he can meld beings with people & has established himself as an Enki, the only reson he wants to meld with a Klryros is because they are what is most like his true form (having wings & all?)

I would like a different race to counter the Diaboli, this would be something similar to a Avian race something with wings, feels @ home in holy places (sort of opposite the Diabolietc.) it just sort of is strange that there is only one race with wings also that there is no ?obviously holy? race because the  Diaboli are ?obviously unholy? not that there is anything wrong with the  Diaboli or anything?

you see the thing about having a backstory about heaven and hell and being a demon/angel is that it would give you cool powers, you would be able to be summoned and you can\'t be either in the game.

Now, if you made it that you lost your powers and took the form of a/an [enter Planeshift creature] then you would be fine...


We really should define what a backstory is, I personaly don\'t know.

If we add angles, we need to add a heaven, since that is where to angels originate from, correct? By adding one new race, we will need to add maybe ten new things that \"has\" to  be there due to the new race. Personally, I want the devs to focus on content, rather than new races.
By the way, why have a half-angel, half-devil character, if there is no such thing as angel/devil, nor heaven/hell? It\'s all very confusing.

Er? Demons? Angels? Demon-angels? Interstellar travel? WHAT?!? Geez, I\'m an, uuuh, ancient god, who has created several other universes and races but due to some stupid accident (a run-in with a hyperspace bat, actually, when altering basic rules of the universe), I ended up in Yliakum in the form of an Enki. Before being trapped in Yliakum, however, I was the collective mind of a major spacefaring cybernetic race of dragons but got seperated from any physical form when the race went extinct due to some catastrophically failed experiment (involving the transition to a completely energetic lifeform). Well, now I\'m working as a farmer at the second level. :]

Funny, same thing happened to me last week.

The problem with introducing a couple new races is that they\'re being introduced to fit in with your own independant backstory.  Instead, look at the planeshift world and the races available, and try to construct something interesting from them instead of relying on \"extremes\" (such as an angel/demon crossbreed, which would probably result in you not existing).

Writing in the context of someone else\'s setting is difficult, but it is more rewarding to everyone else as it adds to the setting instead of just being \"tacked on\"

The long and short of it is that. No, there won\'t be angels or demons(other than diaboli), and personally, I don\'t even think there should be. More classes... perhaps. However, if we add Angels, Demons, Vampires, etc, then what\'s the difference between this and every other mmorpg? Personally I like the idea of races that you don\'t look at and say, \"Oh, them again.\" For instance... Kran, when you see a Kran you don\'t get any preconceived ideas from what a Kran is like in other games. I find that refreshing.

The long and short of it is, I think it\'d be better if you changed your biography to fit the game, not vise verse.

Here. go and read some story\'s of other people\'s characters, and tehre you\'ll see that they all have to do something with yliakum.. the gods Laanx & Talad..The races that are ingame.  So even if u have been a AngOn (hmmzz...or DEEL) then u will have ended up as one of the classes that are findable ingame.  Cause else that background story wont have anything to do with Planeshift.  And i do think it should be as original as possible...

Well actually since my Char ?merged? with an Enki (& soon a Klyros) both of them have back stories & goals of there own now merged with a goal of finding a way to travel the other universes & exploration, my Enki (before merging) was from a troubled past scattered with memories that he has blocked out, but he doesn\'t remember much, he loved animals ever since he can remember, always had an amazing ability to tame them? anyway, not that he is Merged he has some goals & wouldn?t be just ?around?, he now has a great will to explore & tame larger & more ferocious beasts, & uncover more of his past & origins?.
(Short Version)

I think that it would have been nice to have a flying race different from Klyros or anything anyone has ever seen, not look harpies/angels/whatever etc.. but that is just my opinion, I will have to settle for Klyros, or I could actually make extremely good models for this new race & do all the work for them? but I?m probably to lazy? I?ll just do a Klyros for CB maybe? * sadly goes & does something else? *

hehe ..yeah it is true that ur character has a different background story from yliakum\'s world.. but your character does end up as a race and inhabitant from Yliakum.. (am i right?)  So that is something that at LEAST has to be on a story if you ask me. yoU cant end up writing a background story  with races that come from EVE Online or something.
