Mapping PS in blender questions
« on: September 04, 2004, 10:43:07 am »
Im very interested in mapping for PlaneShift as i\'ve been learning the ways of blender for quite some time. I have created some maps, tested things out and would like to get more PS specific. I\'ve downloaded the PS source and found textures and world files.

I would much like to edit existing PlaneShift maps to see how they\'ve been put together, so I can gather skills specific to PS mapping.

Is it possible to somehow import the world files into blender and work on them there?

How exactly are map files exported from blender, ready to use in PlaneShift?

If it\'s not possible to import the world files, is it possible to download the original map files somewhere?

All help is much appeciated. Thank you.

Good to see that you are intersted in planeshift! But if you really want to join the dev team, you should contact them on irc, they only rarely swing by here.

As for editing files, I know that you can\'t release mods to the maps or art without their aproval. But it should be possible, considering the mods I have heard of.

Im not interested in releasing anything public really. Just want to use the existing planeshift maps for private use, to play around with and learn from. I\'ll try contacting the dev team to see what they say. Thanks!

You cannot load the \'world\' files in Blender. Also the original maps are made with 3dsMax and it is not very easy to get those into Blender either (without losing something).

I think you can trial 3dsmax for free.  I bought a copy last month and its excellent software, well worth the money.  Much more powerfful and easier to use from blender.

Is it possible to reverse the 3dsmax-cs transition from cs ?
