Duribility?
« on: September 09, 2004, 05:01:26 am »
Will durability be implamented? Honestly, duribilty makes me very annoyed. Gotta go get your weapon or armor and ger it repaired, if too later, the weapon or armor will break! I HATE DURIBILITY! Please no duribility! I know I will get flamed, but this is worth it. I honestly hate duribilty. I would definately love no duribility ^^. poke me with a stick.

Although I\'m not sure if durability will be implemented in PS I certainly hope it will be.

I understand why you may hate durability, this I would guess is because poor implementations of durability in other games.  I would like to see durability being implemented through the slow but constant degredation of the object over time not the instantanious destruction of the object in question.

Would such an system be better in your eyes Geglesh?

man, i totally disagree, constantly repairing stuff... it would make a lot of people not happy. i personally sould not like to rebuy or pay someone to repair my stuff. they honestly shouldnt implement it.

Edit: yes i know a better system, not having duribilty!

hm.. what if there was durability, and it wasnt like every hour go repair your stuff, it would be like 36 hours of using an item... and after an item being used more and the druability going down, there would be marks on the object, like on the sword there would be small indentations from being used, and after repairing they would go away. i think that would be pretty cool, you dont see that in many games

Personally  I think durability systems add to the realism and player economy in many games.  While I don\'t have any interest in being a crafter or repair person myself it would be nice to have a reason to seek someone with these skills out ( and not just to get the next great weapon or armor).  This could build friendships between you and a good crafter thats on when you are.  You might have never talked with them had you not needed thier services regularly.

While I can see how it takes away from the power gamer grinding away with mob after mob I just can\'t see how it could hurt a role playing focused game like planeshift.   So what if you\'ve got to take 15 min and go talk with a few people and put some money back into other players hands.  Who knows that crafter may be interested in your trip down to the 3rd level that tore that tunic up so badly.

It would be nice if the system where based on damage over time leading up to unusability.  Of course it appears as if these will be middle ages type equipment so things would probably take quite the beating before breaking.

EDIT: fixes some typos i\'m obviosly to tired to type straight

Durability systems, I look forward to see one implemented.

Once again I think of morrowind, durability lowers a weapons effectiveness. Its use lowers durability slowly but doesn\'t make the weapon useless immediately though. Something like that in Planeshift would be great, especially if better made items are more durable.
