What's with all the bent knees?
« on: September 30, 2004, 12:27:31 am »
In every screenshot I see, every character I see stands with bent knees.  When I stand around, talking or doing some other activity, I stand with my knees straight, with my entire leg being straight.  The knees give the impression that all of the characters are skiing, because that\'s the stance you would use when you go down.  So if none of the characters are skiing, why do all of them have bent knees.  When I stand like this in real life, it\'s extremely uncomfortable and camn become tiresome over a long period of time.  So, why? ?(

The better question is why does it matter...?

P.S. I don\'t have green skin, doesn\'t mean they should throw out all Nolthrir does it?

I can\'t cast spells either, should they not include magic?

*run mode:: Sarcasm*
Either A: the characters were made that way by the modelers and animators
or B: ...No, wait...there is no B
*end mode:: Sarcasm*

Some things just do not look real in a game, like games where characters move around like they are being pulled on a string or driven around on a cart.
I have to agree that the knees thing has always bothered me a little but if you are put off the entire game by the way they stand than maby it is not what you are looking for.
If on the other hand you are just bringing it up so that we all have something to chat about than...

*run mode:: In Character*
\"Have a beer. It will take your mind off all that philosiphy stuff.\" slides a beer to Nightmare.
*end mode:: In Character*

Since the website is down I haven\'t looked at the screenshots, so I don\'t know which race(s) you are talking about..

But the human race IIRC has straight legs AFAIK

There are four screenshots. Two in which you can\'t see anyone standing anywhere, and one where I\'m somewhere in the forest (Female Ynnwn) - and I\'m definitely not standing with my knees bent - and one where Moogie is running through the forest - she\'s running, and people usually bend their knees when running. So I really don\'t see where the problem is. :)

I was referring to the old MolecularBlue Screenies, and I\'m definitely not putting a game off because of bent knees, haha.  Ever since I started following this game I\'ve had a great desire to play it, though.  Unless this game suddenly becomes garbage for some unknown reason, I\'m playing it the day it comes out!   :P

Ahh, the bent knees of MB - What short memories you all have.

Don\'t you remember, early last year when the scourge of the Hydlaa Kneecapper went around?

Most of the MB characters are still in rehab and need regular physio because of that ;)

*Acting as though it matters*
You\'ll notice the oversized thigh and quad muscles the characters have, which is a reason it may not be so \"uncomfortable\" for them (assuming characters in MMORPG\'s can feel, doubtedly they cant).
Another reason is because standing with your knees locked can cause you to become dizzy and unfocused. Do you want your character falling over in battle? *With your knees locked, you begin to feel dizzy. You sway and swagger to avoid your enemy\'s claws. Suddenly you fall face flat, and your character is dissembowled by the clacker.*
*Stops acting as though it matters*

Chestar is right about why they have bent knees,but i think it does matter, because if there was no reason for it, it would look retarded.

I would say that only Kran and Enkidukai have pretty noticable bend. Others look fine.

This might even be a good point. Maybe you could have the char bend their knees when engaged in combat (or actually, if there are hostile beings in the immediate vincinity), so that they are more flexible (to duck or run), even when they\'re not (yet / anymore) actually fighting. If they, however, aren\'t aware of any danger and feel safe, they should have locked knees, because it\'d be useless waste of energy to keep standing with bent knees all the time (unless they\'re training). Implementing this should be reasonably easy given the skeleton-based models.
