The Lotto
« on: October 01, 2004, 01:37:59 am »
Well as many of you know, when you give an npc money/tria ect. it \"dissapears\" and you will never see it again. So instead of waisting all that money why doesnt it go to somthing? What I\'m saying is that when you spend money at a npc shop it should go to a \"jackpot\" in the lottery and at the end of each week or somthing there could b a drawing to see who wins it.  You could buy a ticket for it at a special lotto store for say... 5tria and that would be your ticket for that week.
But, unlike most games with a lotto where somone always wins it. There should be numbers like a normal lotto has so there will be less people who get the jackpot.  A normal lotto ticket sually has seven numbers and a bonus number. That makes the odds HUGE and there is a tiny chance that you will win. I say we have four numbers and no bonus so if you get all the numbers you win it all.  This would also prevent from having every single person in ps have a lot of money.
Lemme put it this way:
#1
Person Spends money to buy somthing from npc - the money goes to the lotto jackpot which is 1000 tria - no one wins the weeks tria so the tria goes away forever and next week it starts at 0
#2
Person Spends money to buy somthing from npc - the money goes to the lotto jackpot which is 1000 tria - Somone wins the lotto and gets the 1000 tria - the next week it starts at 0 again

I like this idea because there is a OK chance that you will win and the money that you spend at a npc\'s store wont go to waste. This will also make a few people in ps have an extra bonus of money that they can use without making everyone in PS rich.

A lotto system like this, while interesting, doesn\'t seems to be something used in medieval (need to check into it...).

A system of lotto could exist.  However, a majority of said money should be distributed through something more constructive and involves player in more of a role-playing game.

Some example could be a Tournament.  A Clan/Guild War.  Fight against wild creature.  etc.

Its a pity a realistic economic system can\'t (or can it?) be considered in online games, maybe they will one day when virtual materials are made semi-finite :).

A lotto system sounds interesting but again would it decrease if I sold items to a trader?

I like the idea of pooling the money spent in a city for use by the city government (hiring new npc etc) rather then rewarding the players with free money (unless it in turn generates revenue for a city though ticket sales or something... goes to the arena etc).

I don\'t know unless some other areas in the game get filled out I don\'t think this idea would fit properly. Nice idea though.

I was actually trying to find a way to not maste the money we spend on to an npc. I like the idea of adding stuff to the town too. Maybe on a town bullitin board it would say: \"Thoust thy city needith thy fif of the teen thousand (15000) tria to begin thy construction of thou bigger library\"

Actually now that you mention it that would be more interesting in  a way... maybe the players can make towns grow... perhaps they require a constant amount of cash to run the city. Taxes etc on guild...  I don\'t know though.

I like the idea, and can see what you mean... for some reason though the way money goes in other online games I\'m a bit worried. Maybe I\'m wrong, I\'ll have to think some more and try to work out exactly why I\'m worried :) .

I seem to remember there being a time in US history when Taxes were illegal (untill a certain amendment) and all govermental operations relied on donations or on Lottories to build new centers. If I saw something like that in the game than I would probably buy a ticket each month/week/day/ whatever. However I don\'t like the idea of money for free from what we spend on NPC vendors. I for one like to see an active and real economy that is changed by market price and the like. Thus a jackpot from the vendors would be wierd to me since they are charging that money so they can buy food and housing for them and their families.
On the other hand -yet again another hand- it is a game.

Returning the money given to NPCs into the economy by a \"free\" method such as random selection would cause massive inflation.  That money is not wasted or gone, since new items are probably being created, dug out of the ground, etc.  When you sell an NPC an item, they also have to get the money from somewhere;  when you buy an item then you can imagine them spending that money on food, clothes etc. even if these things are not reflected in the in-game economy.

i dont like the idea of gambling in a game. why not put a casino in there too? and the stock market? look! The hydlaa blacksmith went up .05 tria!

::thinks for a second...:
::more thinking..::

what if the guilds had stocks? i know i just said that gambling is bad, but what if guilds did have stocks
and like if i had a stock for guild X, every time guild X got a new member or won a guild war or something i would get money. just an idea though.

::more of the thinking::

are there gonna be taxes? like property tax and guild tax. of sales tax..just wondering

well, a way we could do that is...

when a new patch is coming out, everyone has to donate a cumulative total of X tria.  or there could be tax on the patches like when the patch is gonna come out you pay an X% tax. because the devs have to have something to add to the city, they cant just say ok...pay money and the library will get bigger. just a thought, and it may get confusing...it also may not apply to the situation

Taxes? Pay for patches? I don\'t like this idea. At least not if it\'s done automatically. What if I don\'t give a damn about the local library? What if the patch improves things for ppl. I\'m at war with (also, patches are OOC things and tria are IC things, and extreme measures need to be taken to keep these as separate as at all possible)? What if I just don\'t feel like paying any tax at all? If I\'m out in the dungeons, is the tax collector going to pay me a visit anyway? And if he does, is he sure he\'ll live to collect the tax (ya know, monsters\'n all ;) )? It shouldn\'t be automated, because there is no automated system like IRL.

I\'d feel a lot better about voluntary donations towards things. Maybe I\'ll just feel like donating for new streetlights some day.

Also, the money \"vanishes\" in the NPC shops just as it \"appears\" at them, when ppl. sell stuff. And, as has already been stated, items of value, like ore, appear out of nowhere all the time, so it\'s only fair to have the money vanish. Otherwise, the economy would solve this problym by massive inflation. 500 rubies for a mug, anyone? ;)

I think the places you go to could have a \"donation box\" and each place could have its own. So then if you use the mage stor a lot you donate there. This could also make it so \"the great library\" would be at one city and like a huge arms shop could be at another

i like that last idea Efflixi. that way it kind of simulates RL (if people keep buying and/or donating to the same shop they get better stuff for better prices).
