One time spell cards
« on: October 01, 2004, 04:06:31 am »
Since not all of us are magic users, I have an idea that non-magic users can still use a few spells or magic that is normally not available to tankers.

It\'s called a Spell Card. This card would be a one time use card that releases the power of the spell once then then the card crumbles up into dust and gets blown away.

So there would be cards for all the six ways of magic...
My name is NOT pronounced, \"Kway-per,\" it\'s pronounced \"Kye-per.\"

Wouldn\'t spell scrolls be more appropriate for the setting? may maybe not... this just reminds me too much of some kids show on tv atm.

Anyway this sound very much the way spell scrolls have been used in games for ages, so I don\'t have a problem with the concept (just that its a card :p but thats only in response \'Yi Gi Oh\' or whatever its name is).

Do not repeat the tactics which have gained you one victory, but let your methods be regulated by the infinite variety of circumstances.

Instead of having spell cards/scrolls how about making them chipped glyphs (or some other magical by-product) which is thrown at the target  and then the spell (a weak one obviously) is cast onto that target.  Efflixi, the point (in my view) of having these magical items is to make it possible for people who can\' t use magic to be able to do so to a small degree, lets face it who wants to see a guy who you know can\'t do magic cast a spell more powerfull than most mages :P

P.S. These items could be useful for a mage to quickly cast low level spells as well.
I reserve the right to be wrong.

i like zorium\'s idea it makes it fast and simple applies it to the basis of the game and makes it for a bigger more expansive way to battle. and even when not in battle it can be used for fireworks like targeting a tree and start throwing different ones at it and it would be like fireworks. dangerous fireworks but i mean whats fireworks without the danger = P

upon entry leave your shoes.....dont want them dirty after i kill you = P

Like the chipped glyph idea.

However, being a Chinese origin, I got this idea swimming in my head.

Magic parchment could be created (for the purpose of the storyline) by grinding down chips from the same glyph and write them out.  However, due to the fragmented nature of these written glyphs, their power is only a fraction of the most basic of spells.  A better quality/stronger scrolls are very expensive and are highly sought after.

this idea is a really good one.

maybe we could have cards that send out a simple flare, like what mage of darkness said, but with more of a point. lets say i was in a party, and i died. i would come back and cant find my party, i would ask them to use a flare card or parchment or scroll or whatever, and it would send colored sparks in the air so i can just follow them. but only my party would see the sparks so that other people dont get confused and go to the wrong party.

and zorium is right, if the cards were hella strong it would be really awkward seeing a knight summoning a huge tornado or something. but the ones that can summon that kind of stuff, could be VERY expensive/rare.

another idea, the parchment could be used as a weapon in place of a staff or wand and my attack would be a fireball or wind blast or whatever the parchment says
hv down in flames..
