monster ideas sketches
« on: October 12, 2004, 06:42:52 am »
The following sketches were created by me according to some descriptions in:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=71&boardid=11&sid=942feb4c84f997cf4368eac91d72b01e

Note: I don\'t intend to create a full artline or color image from any of those. I come from a background of caricatures drawing, in which I draw directly, no pre-sketching, no geometric shapes, no pencil tests, just direct drawing.
These drawing were made the same way (this kind of drwaings was pretty rare among my works (about once a year), till I saw the monster descriptions).

if anyone feels like coloring or line-arting any of these sketches, be my guest.

(the originals are A4 size, I had to cut and resize them to get small filesizes)

I converted them for you, just curious... why did you choose ones with Gr... names?

Edit: I just looked at the images and read the thread. I really like the grangalan, while they are drawn well, the Grynn looks like a weird Zulu and the Gratacs seem too cute. Aside from that, nice.

Actually, there\'s no reason for the \"gr\" thing. I didn\'t even notice it.
I chose these specific monsters since they had nice descriptions.
I like monsters that are somewhat different from things that exist in reality. (things that look like dogs, but with different colors, for example, don\'t work for me).
These three were the first ones I found that were different enough for me to picture in my head. (while the three headed bear, and the furry donkey are beyond me)

If it helps you, my next sketch is of a small \"Moglamoid\".
after that there will be a \"stone imp\".
Then I\'ll look at the second page of monster ideas :)

adeli: I don\'t think you would like to tun into this bunch of cute Gratacs in a dark cave :)

ArcaneFalcon: thanks, I hope people will really find this useful.
If you know of modellers that need specific stuff, let me know (I probebly can\'t help skinners much, since I stink with colors, and do textures just to prevent the creature from looking two dimentional. which I forgot to do with the Gratacs.)

I need concept art....

Acually I was wondering if someone could sketch a female Klyros for me because I\'m probably going to do one in 3D after finishing the male one: 3D) ]Klyros

I haven\'t seen much art on the female Klyros...

The description is here: http://www.planeshift.it/razkly.htm
(It would be nice if I had a front side & back but anything will help)

Duke it was not an affront, just a simple observation. No offense was intended. I was going to tell Zeraph to come here, but he found his own way. He is our resident modeller among the non-devs.

I like these new ones, and I agree, I wouldn\'t want to run into those cute little things in a cave, glowing yellow eyes are a tad offputting after all.

I like Red Jelly Beans!

Very Very nice pics. I like all 3 and think they all should be in planeshift. I especially like the 3rd one. I was thinking of something like that where they are real small so individually they are weak but in groups they are strong. Though i picture them in a more small goblin form with sharp teeth. But GREAT WORK!!!!

yaaay!
(let me know when you get to create one!)

Zeraph: I\'ll try to do the klyros thing, but note that my knowledge of human anatomy (especially female anatomy) is quite weak. you might want to ask karyuu on trying this one, he has a good eye for feminine features.

Adeli: no offense taken (guess I should have put a winking smily there...). When I finished them I thought the gratacs turned out too \"rap-doodle-style\" (too cartoonish, you might say), so your observation is not so far from mine. Criticism is always welcome (no criticism, no improvement).

And how comes everybody likes the Grangalan?
It\'s quite a horrible insect. (while the wajisha is really likable)

But not as horrible as the kaulak:

I gave up drawing moglamoid once I realized it\'s just a huge grasshopper. I created the kaulak instead.

a little kaulak anacdote:
I started drawing it on the bus (the eye and the hands), while doing this I got a bit nauseous (it tends to happen when I read on long rides), so I stopped drawing. since then I can\'t look on the drawing without feeling sick. so for creature stats I would note that this is a disgusting creature.

and an old one: a mahuji

p.s.
----
roughkran: The teeth thing is still possible, I think no one of them was drawn with an open mouth...

wait a minute...
Are we sure there is a female klyros?
and if so, can we tell it from the male?

I mean, we can\'t tell a male dog from a female dog (uless looking at the right place)
we can\'t tell a female lizard from a male lizard in most cases (except for several species which are specially colored)
we can\'t tell a male snake from a female one (are there female and male in snakes?)

why should we be able to tell a male klyros from a female Klyros? (I say unisex fits here quite well)

That\'s great!
everyone likes the grangalan because everyone likes bugs, or @ least likes to squish bugs in games...

Hmm.. Thinking of starting a \"What\'s Your Favorite Bug\" Thread

I\'ll probably ask ArcaneFalcon if he wants to model the grangalan with me....

(PS: Karyuu has a good eye for feminine features. because she is a female  :D)

edit: Well, the Kran is the only uni-sexed race. I think it is something like wider hips & boobs obviously, also maybe there wings could be slightly different or the crest or something....

oops... sorry karyuu!
(good thing she doesn\'t read this thread  :D )

Zeraph, Here\'s your female klyros (yes, guys, you can comment on proportions, clothes etc. And no, I probably won\'t make better drawings since this one was quite consuming. I don\'t know why I hate drawing humanoids. I guess it gives more room for mistakes.)

As you can see I went on the \"80\'s hair look\" with the spikes. I thought it would look more feminine then small spikes. I based it on the well-known male Klyros face, and used Zeraph\'s legs.

(the situation wasn\'t planned by the way, it just turned out that way)

and the PNG
