MUD Enthusiasts
« on: October 21, 2004, 05:27:23 am »
Well earlier today I got a little bored and decided to start my own MUD.  I\'ve already got the server set up and ready, but what I need are people who would like to be Builders.  Experience is preferred but it\'s not required and I don\'t mind showing people the ropes.

For those not interested in actually helping build the MUD, I do have need for artists, designers, idea makers, webhost, etc.

This isn\'t going to be a huge project, just something for other PS users to play in there meantime and you are all welcome to make suggestions and give your input and ideas.

To get a hold of me you can contact me on AIM (Idollic), MSN (Idollic@hotmail.com), or in IRC (irc.greenhouse-irc.net #PSMUD) and I will give you further details.

Before I start jumping for joy *still holding it in* I need to ask what Base you are using, Circle, ROM, SMAUG, etc...
I am currently learning how to build in Circle3+ and I need a good place to get some \'real\' experience. I think the text editor and \'redit\' are the same for most of the bases though so. Yea, I\'m a huge MUDer.

xpytz at yahoo . com:)
I\'ll try and contact you some time this weekend but I think we are in offset timezones.

Smaug 1.4a

Yeah it\'s a learning experience for me as well.  I\'ve been a builder on other MUDS before but I\'ve never had to create one from scratch.

Oh and I\'m GMT -5.

Well great, tell Moogie to get in touch with me.

As far as webhosting goes all I need is basically an info site for the MUD, listing races (Plus there pics, Moogie :)), help files, etc.

For those of you interested in just taking a look the address is ---- .  Keep in mind that what you will be seeing in there is what came with the servercode and it will be changed.

If I\'m not in there I\'m probably taking a break :]

192.168.*.* are class C ip addresses, which means that no one can access your mud that way. go to 192.168.1.1 and log into your router and look at the status page to find your IP, and then look for port forwarding and forward port 4000 outside tcp to port 4000 on 192.168.1.104 inside tcp

EDIT: from here: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/aggr/vpn5000/5000sw/conce60x/5000cfg/ipaddr.htm

 Private Networks

If you need large numbers of addresses on your network, and they do not need to be routed on the Internet, you can use private IP addresses that the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) recommends. The following address ranges are designated as private networks that should not be advertised:

    * 10.0.0.0 through 10.255.255.255
    * 172.16.0.0 through 172.31.255.255
    * 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.255

He needs to sort out his host first I think, XpYtZ. :P

As for the art, I\'m interested, but it depends what sort of thing you need. For one, I simply cannot draw enviroments... but monsters and some character race portraits should be okay. You\'ll probably have to hire a couple more people for that stuff.

Good luck btw, and remember: PS used to be a MUD anyway. :D

Ok thanks to josePhoenix\'s help and patience ^^  I have the MUd up and connectable.

Address is  68.51.140.115:4000

If you connect right now you will be able to create a char and do the training.  If you log out and come back in you be sent to Limbo as the defualt spawn point doesn\'t exist yet.

Moogie:  That\'s good since it\'s only the races/classes/mobs that I need art for :)

You\'re welcome to if you like.  I might set up some forums (As long as Sep gives the OK) so things like that can be posted in a seperate place.

I want the MUD to be very diversified.  A varying list of races/classes so there is more room for uniqueness between characters.

Info on them would be nice too, as each races will have a homeland and history/religions/lifestyles.

Ok here are some races I thought up

Gramuslak
The same build and size of your average humanoid with tanned skin.
Has holes in the side of the head for ears and their hair grows in a mohawk type style from the fringe all the way down the spine.
Has 3 fingers and toes, none of them have toe/finger nails.
2 tusk like horns extend from behind the shoulders and curl slightly around the waist. In males the horns extend down both side of the back but in females they extend around the front covering up the chest and the horns usually have hairs on females.
The horns prevent these humanoids from using standard armors.
They have many tatooes over their face and chest.
They are masters of magic.

Amlar
Lizard like humanoid slightly smaller than most other races and usually have orangey red skin.
Because they blink horizontally their eyes appear to be longer vertically like a normal humans eyes usually look longer horizontally.
They are thin just above the hips as most of their organs are compacted into their upper chest.
Females have a tentacle like limb extending from the back of the head where as males do not.
They have 2 tails each about the length of their legs.
They specialise in luck and the use of blunt weapons.

Excellent.  I MUST play this MUD.  I dun have any idea how to build them though.  (I\'m ashamed...I call myself a programmer.)  I love to watch games progress from their early stages onwards...
I am made from the dust of the stars,
And the oceans flow in my veins.
Here I hide in the heart of the city,
Like a stranger coming out of the rain.
