Let players change the world
« on: October 22, 2004, 08:46:10 am »
Perhaps it would be possible for some skilled players to change the shape of world - terrain - i mean to dig caves, build fences, shape your own ground etc etc..

It can\'t be possible for newbies of course, it should cost some gold, but anyway it could help devs to vary the land and would give a lot of fun.

I think it would be great to allow players to make things - actually 3d objects - that could be inserted to the game after verified by devs...

Could be sort of template to do this, or separate tool - sort of simple 3d cad with predefined set of textures...

Should be a story added to such possibility, i.e. you go somewhere where God (or Santa Claus) make your wish and gives you thing you always wanted to have. Sort of dungeon or ...

Just more freedom - not only crafting predefined items.

Just a \'diffused\' development...

The trouble is that you might find that you cannot leave hydlaa because some evil person has fenced off the exit, or made a toll booth outside the newbie\'s city. Put if you need to buy the land and get it approved then it could alow you to make a garden for your house.

Very bad idea to have ingame world editing for regular players. The reasons are just too numerous to list. People who want to create their own levels or items can contribute their models and code to the developers the way they do already.

Not to mention that some players would manipulate the world enough to purposely crash the server, either by overloading the land with objects or creating \"invalid shapes\" with the terrain.
Beware that I am distorted in my wording if you do not understand me at all.

Digging - shaping the terrain would take time - much more time than to get out of the terrain.

It could be possible only on owned land part...

Yes; I agree with the others, but I imagine that the original poster meant on your OWN land.

My question: did devs say that you can own large plots of land (i.e. not just a little guild home, but like a \"farm-sized\" plot of land in certain places)? If so, then the idea is feasible.

In a game called Red Faction, you could blow parts of certain cave walls, sometimes revealing secret areas and sometimes revealing nothing but un-blowable stone.
It could be nice if we could cut through certain areas of cave walls (by either digging or blasting), atleast up to a certain degree, and they\'ll slowly regenerate.

It could be nice for diggers, as they\'ll have to actually dig through stone to find valuables, instead of simply going to an object that generates the valuable constantly and collect from it.

It could also be just a fun thing - blasting through stone walls just because. And perhaps sometimes lead to secret passageways.

To make sure no one will dig a hole through the stalagtite, there will be undestructable stone to make sure it\'s possible only to dig to a certain point.

I have copies of [Windows] 3.1, 3.11, 95, and 98, too. Not to mention various versions of MS-DOS

Hmmmmm.... destructable enviroment is a good idea... a lot of coding and mapping thou... and everytime you login you will have to download new data on how the world has been modified...

I reccomend, for now, scrath marks and stuuf becouse that is just textures... much easyer to do...

I think the idea of letting people change the world is a bad idea. I don\'t know how big the world is going to be, but as PS allready has 10000+ (or so I Thought) members in its testing fase, the final game would have a LOT of members, and if they all want their own farm....

The idea of blasting trough cave walls, that would be fun, and I would like to see it in the game :)
