Rome Total War!
« on: October 31, 2004, 03:40:44 am »
Who here has played this awsome game? If you havnt you need to go out to the store and rent it tonight. The game is so fun and is totaly realistic. The battles are amazing and in this game, strategy is better then having more units. Armies of 200 can defend a city from 600! Also in this game regiments of guys actually run away if they are in big trouble and sometime they run off the map! When your general dies though then your also dead. Moral plays a bigger role then brute force and it shows! Campaign is awsome with loads of factions. Imagine like 20 different factions all trying to kill eachother.:D

It would take me hours to say all of the features of the game. So if your wondering what this game is all about then look it up on the net.

OH is this the one RTS where you can have like 1000 people armies?  I love huge army games. Warcraft 3 can only have like 12 people.. not fun :(
My fav rts\'s of all time are wct tft and ega of empires 2.

Q: How many Planeshifters does it take to expalin a simple concept to a newb?
A: Six. Five to argue on who\'s explanation is right, and Moogie to lock the thread.

I tried the demo and it was ok.  Maybe there is more to the game than just organizing your troops in battle?

It looks great, but since its for PC you can go out and \"rent\" it. Might pir... ehh I mean borrow it later from someone. It looks like the best RTS made so far, and I definally want to try it. I probally won\'t be good at it, but the alure of defeating 1000 troops with only 200 would definally be something fun. I have the commander\'s heart i suppose, too bad I dont have the brain too X\'D

I\'m back.... Perhaps in black.

Ah, cool. I will probably pick it up for Christmas or something.  I like these games a lot and was long time warcraft/starcraft player.  Was also looking at \"Dawn of War\".  Haven\'t tried the demo for that yet though.

Never played it. But, when I think of massive armies, I think of homeworld and total annihilation. :D Ahhh, two oldies but goodie classics.
Beware that I am distorted in my wording if you do not understand me at all.

Oh yes there is alot more to the game then battling! You have to build up your empire and settlements. If you dont manage your settlements well and dont expand into your enemies regions then you will be in dept and you dont want that. And also its not like every faction has the same units. Almost every faction has different units.

Also you have a family tree! You start with like 4 or so family members and then they can have babies with thier wifes if they get married. Then when the babies grow up, they can become commanders and govenors too. But watch out. If all of you family dies then your whole faction does too!

You have leaders and govenors to command your armies. When they get experience, they get thier traits increased(command, management, influence) or a retinue which helps them in all sorts of tasks.

In the game, Rome is divided into 3 nobel families, the Julii, the Scipii and the Brutii. Also in Rome there is the S.P.Q.R.(basicaly the senate) which give you missions that they want to be done. If you complete the missions they give you, then you get rewarded. But if you ignore them, then they start to dislike you and give you missions that you wouldnt like to do. For example they might tell you to attack your ally. Although if you do your missions then your family members have a chance to get into the senate. If you do have some in the senate then they might give you a mission that you were going to do already and reward you for it!

Also you can change the amount of units that are on the battlefield using your video options. You can chage it insead of using 32 units in a regiment you use 16, or you can chose to use 160! But remember that goes for the enemy too so its not like you have a better chance of winning.;) Although it is always nice to have masive battles with bodies flying everywhere.

I actually like the non-battle part the most in all the Total War games, but the battle part is awesome nonetheless, especially in Rome. It felt great to take over the entire continent of Europe with an army of vikings in Medieval and japan with an army of samurai, just as it feels good to crush the greek city states, and the empire of carthage with an army of roman soldiers :P

I\'ve never played any Total Wars, I saw the demo for Rome and was impressed suitably.

Sep, is evil genius as cool as it sounds? A webcomic author I read recommended it to his readers...

I loved the AoE games, they were brilliant, hell they still are... Despite the unit limit. I have Empire Earth and Rise of Nations, they are enjoyable to a degree.

Dawn of War is okay, disappointing, I was a beta tester for it, then my brother bought the full game. It\'s acceptable (for a wh40k pc game), most of them suck. I had such high hopes.

Another disappointment, was Starwars Galactic Battlegrounds, did you ever play those? I have both... somewhere.

So, of you all, who recommends I buy Rome?

I like Red Jelly Beans!

Buy it, you won\'t be disappointed, many say that it\'ll be the best RTS of the year
and don\'t think of 1000 people armies, think of 10,000 people armies ;) and it\'s really all about the strategy, so not just mainly plain charging as in other games, you\'ll loose

Still waiting for Battle for Middle-Earth however, boy that\'s going to be a really cool game too...
