Conspiring MOBs
« on: November 09, 2004, 09:27:40 am »
maybe in certain areas you would have a tribe of some mobs that would use different tactics to attack a town or guild or group of people. some spontaneousness would be awesome.
for Example...
say you got a pretty busy town with the walls around it and all that... then down the path you start getting into some safari kind of shit, big trippy trees spread sporadically around, some big neutral mobs that wont attack unless you attack first, (like a big neutral non aggressive elephant) and crazy paths leading into jungle and tall grasses and plants etc etc, then you look off in the distance and in the dark night you see a camp fire and about 65 Prims*around their teepees and huts  doing all kinds of stuff to prepare for an attack or battle...( this is where strategy would come into play, if your with a guild you could tell the guild to attack the tribe to deal with them before they could get fully prepared, or maybe set up some traps that would kill mass amounts of them at once... a good rpg in my eyes would have a very large amount of choices and actions you could do.)
Or maybe your standing in town getting some grub and all of a sudden 15 ghoulish knights come charging in battling to the death.
please see my Prims post

OK I almost stopped reading this because of the language or lack of intellegent language, i.e there is no reason to swear or add crazy or something like that as an asjective for every word.
Well I did decide to finish reading this and try and give it a chance and basically all I could get out of this is that you want players to use some strategy or common sense when playing your character. Not really sure how that is a wish for the game.
However, I am sure there will be plenty of opportunites where you have to use your brain to play the game.

I agree that the language is... inappropriate.
But the point AFAICS is that the MOBs themselves would engage in some preparation before attacking, instead of simply appearing fully-equipped out of nowhere, as is the current way of doing things in computer RPGs. By doing this, you\'d actually enable the players to use pre-emptive tactics that otherwise wouldn\'t be available simply because there were no signs of an attack of MOBs (other than you knowing that ther is a spawn point). So you could have MOBs do the same things as players, like living in a city, going about their lives, and then go for war, instead of just spawning in a predefined location. However, if players decide to band together and pillage the enemy village, that\'d be players affecting the world. But since something like this would be a really big event, it might be feasible to do so.

On the right track

Sorry that i put a \"naughty\" word in my post. i thought we were all adults and could get around that. but i was wrong. anyways...your on the right track with me... my idea is that mobs will be smarter than the usual rpg mobs.  you attack, they attack, you attack they attack...on and on and on until one wins.
but....
what if you could plan an attack where you attack mutiple targets. instead of like other games (eq) where you can have 30 peeps attack one mob that is super strong. then maybe you have 30 people in a group but you have 23 enemy\'s that you must deal with in a smart way or they will slaughter you.
the basic idea is better artificial intellegence .  if you are offended in anyway or have anything negative to say about my post. DONT POST ANYTHING AT ALL.
i would rather you keep your comments to yourself. and your wasting your time trying to make me look like an idiot.

no offense meant towards anyone and please help with my ideas. and please excuse the unintellegent language or whatever.

Mobs who actully move around and not stay in one place, a Nomad mob would be kool movin around never staying in one place. ( the hunt is half the fun !)

Post a thread, and people will reply. If you can\'t stand people not liking your brilliant ideas, don\'t post them.

Indeed, it seems to come quite naturally to you anyway. :)

As for the topic: I don\'t entirely understand what point you\'re trying to make, but at a guess, I would say it\'s something to do with mass quests/events which involve a whole guild or town full of people. I\'m sure GMs will come up with inventive scenarios to throw at the populace once in a while, when they have the necessary tools that is.

The idea itself is not that bad, the only issue I have is that this feature will take a looo...   ...ooong time to apply to PS and most people here are anxious to see PS as soon as possible.

Lol, yea the ideas good, but its implementing it, the reason rpg ai isent great is because its hard to make good ai, and it also increases server strain. I Think you\'re going to have to wait for GM events :D
