connect with linux-client (cvs)
« on: May 28, 2002, 10:09:39 pm »
hi there..

did anyone of you try to connect to the server with the linux-client from current cvs?
i always get a \"server dropped us for unknown reason\". it does not matter if i try to create a new character or just log in.

the console shows

psAuthenticationClient::Authenticate(narkius,*****,0)
Sending heartbeat message 1 to server....
Sending heartbeat message 2 to server....
Sending heartbeat message 3 to server....
Sending heartbeat message 4 to server....
Sending heartbeat message 5 to server....

and then the aforementioned message pops up in the game window.

when i tried the rpm-version of the linux-client on sunday, it worked.

Most likely you tried to log on when the server had crashed and nobody had restarted it yet. I *think* the cvs version should work ok with the active server.  If you cannot connect at all then the chances are is that the server has crashed.  However, we are working out some of the problems with it so it should be more consistantly up.

The current cvs is release 0x0005 and the active server only accepts version 0x0004 since we know the two of them work ok together.

So in this cause it\'s more of a \'downgrade your client\' :)

well, i made distclean in CS, cel and planeshift and repeated the whole cvs-update-, compilation-procedure but to no avail.

besides i tried the rpm-version on the current server and it works.

perhaps this is something for the bugtrack on sourceforge?

oops.. did not see the last message from acraig. ok, then. :)

I changed the net version number to 0x0005, as acraig astutely mentioned, because the current CVS has differences in the net traffic from the .004 build.  You could try changing it back to 0x0004 temporarily and rebuilding to see if it will work but I don\'t guarantee anything.
