Alchemy
« on: November 17, 2004, 06:24:02 am »
Well, there is already an alchemist job in Planeshift but it seems kinda dull for somthing as cool as alchemy.  If any of you have watched the show \"Full Metal Alchemist\" you will know how I think it should be.  With proper scriptures written on the ground and an item of equal value place inside it, you can change it into somthing new.  An alchemist could easly turn a mana potion into a health potion. But, making somone come back to life would be impossable because there is nothing of equal value. An alchest couldnt do anything with just the right items eighther.  The alchemist would need to learn the right thing to write on the ground to turn somthing into somthing else through lessons or scrolls.  A scroll to turn somthing (of equal value) into to a life pot would be easy to find but a scroll to turn somthing (of equal value) into a house would be very very rare and hard to find.

How do you know it will be dull if they havent even made it yet, or at least you never used it.

I got this right off the ps sight:
\"Yliakum is filled with minerals, plants and gems. Many shops and individuals sell potions and special mixtures to achieve different objectives, from making you stronger to reinforcing walls. It\'s a broad job that requires a lot of knowledge, application and a bit of luck.\"

Seem exciting to you?  Sounds a lot more like a potion maker.  thats nothing like what an alchemist should be like :(  <- Sad in dissapointment

But what if they learn to turn some sand into a large spear? Then the economy would be flooded with sand spears :P

Though stepping into \"God\'s territory\" and making some mutant chimeras would be pretty cool

Alchemy is/was the predecessor to chemestry with the exception that it focused on the transmutation of base metals into gold and silver.  Potion making is more concerned with the production of liquid medicines, or in some cases poisons.

From what you read above do you see anything about runes, scrolls enchantments, scriptures etc...?  What you were describing sounds more like some branch of magic rather than alchemy (though some would argue that alchemy is magic).

Umm you actually think I would make a thread without seaching? (which means I couldnt find anything)

Thr fact that alchemy is magic o not is very debatable. Alchemy dfys phisics, but it is explainable.

But that thread is under the title of \"chemical potions/bombs for alchemists.\"
Surely it isn\'t his fault for assuming the thread didn\'t go off-topic and talk about FMA is it?

Meh. I had to read ten or so randomly picked topics after searching for Alchemy. There oughta be one on-topic thread for it. ;)

Maybe we can stay on topic?

I think the alchemy thing is a cool idea. Just the name \"alchemy\" is cool  :D

Having done litterally years of research on Alchemy I can safely say that there is no way in hell, heaven or earth that you are going to make it all it should be. It had too many braches, to many philosophical pools of thought to be boiled down to just being the \'roots of chemisty\' hell it was the roots of physics and to a degree philosophy, even astonomy has some ties to it.
If you want to have the abbility to mix Alchemical procedures and Magic then sure ask for it but don\'t call alchemy magic, or vice versa.
Oh and what the hell is this Full Metal Alchemy thing? I hope it is a cartoon or something because otherwhise... X(
