Magic System
« on: November 17, 2004, 06:30:28 pm »
I don\'t know if I can ask it, or if this is closed due to NDA, but what do we officially know about the magic system? I\'ve seen we have colors of magic, but I can\'t understand it well. How do they work? Furthermore, which stat is linked to magic DEFENSE?

That\'s all kept secret until release, and even then, the actual rules will be dev only.

Well here is what we can tell you:
There are six \"ways\" of magic red, azure, crystal, brown, dark and blue (corrections if I am wrong since blue/azure seems redundant)
The ways all focus on a certain way of using magic -hence the term ways- and so dark magic would be more \'evil\' in the common form of thought than crystal which would represent \'holy/good\' magic.
All magic -from what I can gather- requires the appropropriate \'runes\' for casting and no, runes do not go away as soon as you use them (again speculation from some CVS stuff I read) it looks like they can be Purified, but the process takes some time, and perhaps some items. Also the number and kind of runes that are being used increases the complexity of the spell so that you may or may not be able to cast it with any level of success. Making too complex a spell or forcing too great a porton of Mana into a spell can do a great deal of harm to the caster and perhaps, even their team since you can try any spell you want but there are side effects on failed casts.
It can be assumed that Wisdom or Intelligence ties to magic in some way, but that information should be on the character creation screen for CB.
Since only the CB testers have actually used the magic system to any extent eveything that we think we know could be wrong but the above is the more \'common\' knowledge.
Maby that will help.
