Interesting, a guild of peaceful storyteller bards...

What I dont get is - you start of as a magic user (I assume only using peaceful magic?), a laborer, or a craftsman and then you stop training in said skills at rank 6 where you become a bard able to choose your craft as a bard, like what kinds of crafts - music, dancing, story telling etc?

good questions.  the guild consists of all types of chars. magic users and not.
The training the I implied could be looked at as a form of going from apprentice to master!  The skills involved in being a Bard are ordinary skills such as storytelling for example, everyone can tell one; what makes it different for the Ovates is they practise the art to the point where they can tell a story that makes each listener fell personally involved with it.

The guild members are free to choose what it is that they want to be a master in, and from there we try to help them as much as possible in attaining the highest level of performance available:)

I still dont understand - are you specially a storytellers guild or just peacefully academics, or just a completely ecclectic guild?

its a case of being all of the above.
As i said on my website I would ideally like it to become an academic guild.

have you ever played D&D?  If you have then you will be accustomed with the principles of how the guild houses work.

We aim to teach everything that we know about people and places within PS to our members!  the storytelling is just a part of raising our profile as a guild.

for example if a member of another guild wants a journeyman Bard to travel with them, then it is the Bards role to take information in about the adventure and to report and record the information in the form of story.  This will then be updated onto our guild site where it can be viewed by all.
By helping other guilds raise their standing within PS we raise ours by association :)

I think this\'d be great if you made it into an organization. I know it\'s harder to maintain, and less cool in some ways. On the other hand, if it was an organization, people from all guilds could join. Anyway, cool idea, good luck.

thank you.
the organisation idea is one I hope to introduce later on.  I think that if the members are willing then the guild is just a means to an end.

another thing, if for instance a guild wants to discredit another then we also train our members in the art of good slander.  pay the right price and your name could be on top in a guild dispute!!

So if anyone in the future needs a Bard to tell stories about them then you know where to find me eh?

Cool. So let me get this straight. I can hire one of you guys to walk the streets proclaiming my greatness? Now that\'s worth a thought... if it wasn\'t for my low profile.

Also, is the slander thing a good idea? I didn\'t think it really fit in with the whole bardish image. Isn\'t throwing insults below you?

Eventually yeah, thats the whole idea.
We train up and part of the training is to accompany ppl on adventures, lets say it builds character:)

Slander is a part of all Bardic skills.  without knowing how to do it how are we to know how to counter it or raise ppls profiles???  its just another side to the dice of life within PS!!

To help clarify to truly understand Bardic knowledge an apprentice must become able to play every type of char ranging from peasants to high lords:)

I think this is a great idea and you seem to be a cool guy Bardialus so keep it up! ;)

Some people believe bards are quite worthless but I disagree. The power of making people underestimate or overestimate other people is great.

OOC: If I wouldn\'t have been the Red Monk I think I would have been a bard :P

Well for future info, come see the guild in CB, we might be able to give a few pointers!!!  you never know :)

oh another thing, hopefully we will have a library of information that we gather, so it might prove useful for ppl to come see us before they go adventuring!?

Just an idea

my favorite character ever was a bard, i had a riot with him so anyone who thinks a bard is worthless had better not say that near me.
