Maya or 3DS Max ?
« on: November 25, 2004, 01:34:42 pm »
I was just curious what is better Maya or 3D Studio Max? I want to start focusing on one of them and I am not sure which one.

AFAIK 3Ds has the best exporters to CS at the moment, so if you want to help with PS, I would have chosen that one.
I have heard though that an exporter for Maya is in development

Both are programs with a name in the 3D industry. And both programs also offers the same features, though each of them being better in specific categories (like Maya, which is  best for animations).
Well, neither is better than the other, it\'s a matter of what you  really like. I chose Maya to learn, kinda don\'t like 3Ds Max :D

I tested both and , for me , is easier to learn Maya because it\'s more clear made but I think 3DS Max has more applications and is a bit more useful because everybody wants 3DS Max :P.  So I?ll get 3DS Max 7 and will try to master it :P. Hope I?ll be ready to help you guys in a month or (not to much) more.

P.S. i know to make music does that help?

Just a note....

I use Maya 3.0 and Blender to export to CS. It works VERY well. It seems to me that 3DS started it towards games, and is now doing more cinematic stuff, whereas Maya started with cinematic, and is now headed toward games.....

I prefer Maya 100%

I have Maya 3 Unlimited, and I got it for 46 bucks on Ebay. But be VERY careful. Most of the Maya\'s on ebay are false. It is illegal to buy a used Maya.

There is a free learning edition of maya although it is probably quite limited

the learning edition of maya is exactly like Maya Complete, only all the renders and the 3d veiws (except in wireframe) have a watermark \"Commerical use of file prohibited by liscense\" on it.
Plus it saves in it\'s own format, so nothing can convert. Well, I did find a way to export to .3ds once...

But I think he was looking for full free 3d software.
Blender is the best ATM. It is lacking in many areas, but the price is great.
