PS is what? Long live PS! I'll wait for PS2
« on: November 29, 2004, 09:46:37 am »
Looking at PS now, the screenshots that is, the lone concellation to mere mortals, and considering how much new appeared since the last release, I can\'t help but wondering, when PS, with all it\'s potential, will be prettier or at least more fun than the other games?

PS has definitely set some records already, like minimum system requirements in the last release, but when will PS set a new standard in game experience of any sort?

The discussion on how to achieve it is mostly welcome....

Meanwhile, I\'ll wait for version 2.0

PS doesn\'t even aim to set \'new standards in game experience\'. It simply has some fundamental beliefs which it is geared towards being developed for.

Namely they are to be Open Source Software, be free to play without any subscription fees, and maintain a roleplay enviroment where other MMORPGs fail to enforce that.

Of course it aims to be a completely original world, have many happy users, look and feel great- but if you\'re asking about groundbreaking technologies, this isn\'t it. It\'s only groundbreaking in its directions and ideals.

That post did more harm than good for my anticipation and enthusiasm of CB for some reason.

Which is good, because I don\'t see CB to have anything that other MMORPGS don\'t and which hasn\'t been in MB already. :) In fact, I see CB as a milestone in that it will have about 80% of what could be described as \"general capabilities in MMORPGs\", which are combat, magic, and usable objects, in addition to what has been present in MB (movement, chars and 3d environment).
These will therefore be expanded and form the base for the addition of truly new concepts, if any can be found.

I am pleasantly surprised each time I read about what CB already has, because before I thought it would be like MB just with some PvP and bigger world. Now it looks like it also has PvE, magic, NSCs, mining and a DR!

As planeshift is made with Crystal Space, if there are any ground breaking technologies to be made, it\'ll be made by them, not PS, thought PlaneShift should feel free to adapt these breakthroughs =)

Maybe they skipped a version but couldn\'t come up with a new name.
I like taking things literally, going overboard is fun! Now... why do I keep getting odd looks?

That has to be the weirdest topic subject I\'ve read...

Oh and yeah, though it may not seem like it, the AB->MB leap was pretty large as well (from nowhere near playable ;) to a crystal hunt with many different races), the MB->CB is about the same.

Though from then on I doubt it will have such big jumps, simply because the \"basics\" are somewhat established.

Where is the funny?

I\'ve never heard of an AB before, leaps and bounds come in many forms, maybe the next step is to be able to interact with PS away from a computer, but then the clock would need to be slowed down and maybe PS can refect a full planet. hack//SIGN comes to mind...(Since I haven\'t played any other MMORPGs which actually RPGed before this is what I used for a basis in looking)

Of course it\'s good. Keep your expectations low, Cirque.

Diamondcite: AB is Atomic Blue, the 0.1 version of Planeshift. Only the oldest oldbies were around during that time. :) They deserve applaus for supporting PS for so long (4+ years).

There is something that makes PS unique. It\'s you and it\'s me. It\'s Yaliakum and it\'s hydlaa. It\'s the Kran and the Diaboli.

Any game is unique.

Just curios. NSC. Do you speek german or is it misspelling (NSC is the German expression of NPC)

I want to be a flame, to crumble to ash, but never ever burnt.

I want to rise higher, rise up to the heavens, but sink, just sink down deeper and deeper into nothing,

I want to be an angel, a chosen, a devil, but I am just a creature that ever wants what it wont get.
