Coterie of Dernier Cri Guilds Contest
« on: December 01, 2004, 06:40:51 am »
To all guilds, the Coterie of Dernier Cri has invited all the great guilds of the
realm of Planeshift into a competition of beauty and prestige. To all guilds that wish to
bestow their best image of their guild enter...

Task: Make a symbol/logo/shield/icon/image (with text) that best represents your guild. T
he only rules are please be reasonable when choosing the size of the symbol, the image must be exactly 160 x 160 pixels (if not points will be deducted accordingly after total score is totaled, and must be made with pride and honor for your guild.

All entries will be due Christmas day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also post them in this thread when your ready to show them off, beware you can only send one image in, so make it beautiful and make it count
Scoring:

Symbolic Relationship 20 pts: Does the symbol accurately decribe your guild. For ex:
If your guild is about cooking don\'t make something that represents mining. A cooking guild
should have an image that represents cooking.

Artistic Creativity 20 pts: Creativity no matter what is always important

Dramatics 20 pts: Make it dramatic, make the image/symbol feel like a sense or power

Description 40 pts: Make it a paragraph describing it and what it says about your guild.

Total__100 pts

Overall Placements: Only top four rankings will be shown

- The Coterie of Dernier Cri Sweepstakes Award

- Second Place

- Third Place

- High Honorable Mention

[My own opinion: I just want to do something that the whole community of guilds can be
involved in and maybe to get some people who are freelancers to get the good light
about being in a guild.]

EDIT: Sorry you did have a guild, I didn\'t read it carefully sorry...

THere are lots of programs like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Photodraw, paint, paint extreme, or just find any visual editing programs.

I hope more guilds are planning to do this

Creating Images

1. Programs

There\'s one thing that most of you already have: Paint. Incase you don\'t know where that is, go to \"Start > Program Files > Accessories > Paint\". This is a very limited program, so I don\'t recommend you use it unless you know exactly what you\'re doing and are sure it won\'t look too bad.

You can also download a free trial of Paint Shop Pro. This is a good program for beginners and has many tools and filters to use.

Alternatively you can try the GIMP. (Don\'t ask me how to download it... all I could see was source code, so unless you\'re a Linux junkie, you\'ll have to find an exe somewhere else.) This program is best suited for image manipulation, rather than making images from scratch. But it\'s free, so that\'s a good thing. :)

2. Making Sure of the Size

All images must be 160x160 pixels. To do this, there is usually a window asking what size you want when you create a New image. Alternatively, go to your program\'s equivilent of \"Edit\" or \"Image\" menu and try to find an \"Image Size\" option.

I can\'t really give more help than this without teaching you how to draw. So now it\'s all down to you. Good luck. :)

Very nice initiative Kuiper, great idea and great to see something for the community and totally in keeping with the Coterie\'s style and vision :)
I hope there\'ll be plenty of contestants.

I\'m in.  Expect something by the begining of next week.

You didn\'t read the entire page, did you?
The Windows installer is available
here. You have to download and install both files.

Okay enough about that GIMP stuff, Entamis I know you mean well but that could\'ve been a PM to Moogie. Everything now is only for guilds to post their image...

More guilds do this c\'mon, don\'t be lazy and represent your guild

Very good initiative Kuiper. Congrats.
But I have one question. Who will decide what is the best \"logo\"? We all know that tastes are different ...
A council? A vote system for all community members?

the judges will be chosen from The Coterie and/or The Followers of Aliathi

Example of Scoring Let\'s say Bob and John are judges, this is what the scoring would look like:

Symbolic Relationship 20 pts
Bob: 17.00/20.00
John: 18.00/20.00
Overall: 17.50

Artistic Creativity 20 pts:
Bob: 16.7/20.00
John: 19.6/20.00
Overall: 18.15

Dramatics 20 pts
Bob: 14.5/20.00
John: 13.2/20.00
Overall: 13.85

Description 40 pts
Bob: 22.68/40.00
John: 36.29/40.00
Overall: 29.48

Total 100 pts: (Found by adding raw scores from all four categories)
Bob: 70.88/100.00
John: 87.09/100.00

Final Overall Score: 78.98

Okay I edited it all....<---------------------------------------

i ain\'t a math wiz but don\'t you mean the highest score is 80 instead of 100 ?

besides that, how many entries can a guild submit under its name ?
