Brothers of the Shadows
« on: December 02, 2004, 12:33:41 am »
Greetings everyone ! First of all, I\'m French and I\'m really trying my best, so please don\'t get upset if I make mistakes. I would like to present to you a new guild, created on the 17th october. It?s named Brothers of the Shadows (? Fr?res des Ombres ? in French), it has the wish to give its members a great part of freedom. We are not a guild with the wish to make the best characters in the game. We want to play for pleasure and for Role-Play, in the spirit of Planeshift.

Brothers of the Shadows Web site

Two glowing points appear under the hood of thick tissue. The stranger gazes at you with his mysterious regard. The two lights seem to arouse your very soul, exploring, without mercy, the most intimate secrets of your existence. And after a short moment of chaos, you have only one wish: to avoid these eyes.

Gathered in the arms of the same entity, the Brothers of the Shadows never talk about themselves. The story of their past is too elaborated to be verbalised. It is part of the stories that must remain untold, of thoughts that must not be expressed, and be engraved only in memories.

Yet the Brothers of the Shadows are united. It may be that they mutually understand each other or that they instinctively, by looking at others, perceive the fine qualities of this guild; nobody knows. But when the hour of war is upon us, when a battle, putting at stake the future of the gathering, is dawning, the Brothers know how to find each other to fight side by side. Then the black shape will move towards the enemy and no man will be able to retain his fear when faced with the unleashed horde.

That those who roam the lands become liberated of their aimless drifting. Here, my Brothers, you will find the rest you have anticipated. Come to us! Become stronger and regain hope by joining our ranks.

History

The origins of the Brothers of the Shadows are not very famous, since the guild has always stayed in the shadows, acting mostly for its own benefits, invisible to the eyes of others.

A part of their history can be found by browsing through the books in the library of Yliakum, but none of the few texts that exist can provide any details on the Brothers of the Shadows, which leaves the reader with unanswered questions.

But it seems that the first defnition of the guild appeared after the disfiguring of Laanx, at the time when she decided to go deeper into the depths of the Stone Labyrinths.

Read all the story here.

Ideology

The Brothers of Shadows privilege the autonomy of the players and has not the wish to force them to participate to quests. Its objective is to join together a community of players who want to play together without being always on the same quests. A Brother of Shadow can be alone most of the time and sometimes participate to a quest he thinks will be interesting.

Everyone can propose a quest to the guild. Then, each Brother will choose to participate or not. If he decides to, he will have the obligation to follow the group until its end.

The only thing a member can be forced to is to fight for the guild if a guild war is declared. All the other decisions should be taken by the concerned Brother.

Read all the rules here.

Alignment

Because each member can nearly do what he wants in the guild, its alignment is Chaotic Neutral. This choice has been made after a long discussion with some of the most important people in other guilds, in order not to take a wrong alignment.

Ranks

Each rank defines a hierarchy level in the guild, but it does not give more ? power ? by the simple fact that players do not have the obligation to follow a leader in his quest. But it does not draw aside the idea of someone who which to become a devoted servant serving his master.

9        Lord of the Shadows
8      Master of the Illusions
7      Leader of Spirit
6     Head of Horde
5    Night Conspirator
4    Child of the Moon
3    Wild Wolf
2    Phantom
1      Will-o\'-the-wisp

Additional informations

The Brothers of Shadows has been created with the idea to put together players that speak French. It does NOT refuse English players or players coming from foreign countries. Quite to the contrary, we are happy when a canadian or a spanish wants to become a Brother of the Shadows. But if you want to join our guild, you must speak a little bit french in order to be with the current of all the last news about the guild.

Ho! I am really surprised of this!

I was honnest when I said that I had never taken pictures or informations from FF11 :) In fact, these terms are the English equivalent of the words in French.

\"Feu Follet\" in the Google Translating Tool gives: Will-o\'-the-wisp

I have created all the ranks by myself, it is a coincidence if they are the same in FF11. Moreover, I played only Final Fantasy 6 (in Japan, 3 in Europe).  :]

Like they were there first - they\'re classical DnD critters.

I saw a monkey in Monkey island, but i don\'t go around, accusing everyone using the word monkey of plagiatism or similar.

Nice guild btw :)

yes it was very nice but i think you would have an easy time getting members if you had a bit more english to it....(just a suggestion)
Talamir - DeT, Dark Empire, etc, etc, etc.

Hey Robinmagus,

That is not my wish. A guild where one half of the members are \"only-English-speakers\" and the other half \"only-French-speakers\" would be very, very, very difficult to manage.

Planeshift is an International Game, so I don\'t think it is a problem to create a French guild opened on the other languages and on the other guilds. I am sure I would get more members if I \"had a bit more english to it\" like you say, but I like challenges. I recruited each of my members and I will continue to do this because by this way I know each of them well.

Ho, and remember the guild is NOT against recruiting English players! We just ask them to understand a little bit French . :)

Very good ... very good
It seems you\'ve thought at everything before posting. Well done. Not many do this around here these times. Also, your ideas are interesting, not new, but interesting.

Though, don\'t do the mistake with \"french\" only guild, that yea ... \"we recruit others too but we want french people!\". Follow my advice :)

Yes, Planeshift is an international game, but from your words you\'re just a french guild that also recruits people from outside France. Why not being just a guild, that recruits everyone?  ;)

Phantom is simply figure that can\'t be touched or anything... just seen. Obviously, existed before any fantasy setting was created...
Will-o\'-the-wisp comes rather from folklore believes (same with dwarves, gnomes, light elves, dark elves, giants, trolls, goblins, dryads and so on). It is actually a real thing that could be seen at night, altho\' there\'s no explanation of how it is formed...

Edit: Here\'s some interesting article about the Will O\' The Wisp

In fact we do not refuse English, Spanish, Japanese, ... players, like I said. We accept everyone who is able to speak French but if they speak also English or another foreign language that\'s better.

You ask me why we are not recruiting everyone? Because in my opinion it is impossible to manage a guild where we speak English AND French AND Spanish AND Japanese AND whatever else. And because I\'m French I would like to create a guild where we speak French (but where we are not necessarily French).

I understand your opinion when you see that someone wants to create a guild for \"just frenchies\" and I also understand your reaction. First of all, Brothers of Shadows is not a guild for \"just frenchies\" and we want to have some relations with other English guilds.

Then, because Planeshift is an international game, why could we not create guild where we do not speak English? By this way, Planeshift could be a place where all the people in the world could come.

Third point: Brothers of Shadows will not stay on their own and create another community. When we can we help the English newbies and if we do not understand what they say we ask each other the meaning of their words. And we also have Role-Play discussions with some players.

I hope you understand now why we are recruiting people that can speak at least French :]

English is an international language, and everyone around here speaks it. I didn\'t see any Japanese speaking in his own language. I am a Romanian for example, but I don\'t speak Romanian here ;)
I still don\'t get it why you want it your way, because you\'re going towards only one direction: isolation (ok, maybe is not the right word, but close to it :P ...) from the main community, even if you don\'t want, you create a 2nd \"french community\".
 I still don\'t get it ... 0.o

When we can we help the English newbies ...

You\'ve already split the community :)
 Come on ... only one \"team\" :D

Anyway, not that I care, but you seem to \"have\" a future around, the guild is nice, so I\'ll try to be near you :)

 * EDIT *

And not that I have something with the French language, but I don\'t think you\'ll find many people outside France that will speak it and not English :)
C\'est la vie mon Planeshift frere ;)
