Staking
« on: December 06, 2004, 03:00:04 am »
I think something that would be cool to see in CB is staking, where you fight anyone anywhere (forget all attack limitation rules) and you put a certain something up for stake so you lose what you stake and it appears in the other person\'s inventory if you lose the duel.

For example: You are walking down to the town center to sell your claymore and you have a little extra money to buy a galkard. Suddenly a screen pops up. \"Moogie (level 75) has offered to duel you. Accept? YES or   NO. (You click \"yes\".) You have accepted the duel.\"
Now another window pops up. To the right you see your inventory, and too the left of the pop-up window you see some empty boxes. On the bottom of the screen you see \"Moogie has staked a galkard.\" You click on the tria and your claymore and the items appear in the previously empty boxes. Then you click \"accept stake\" then the program says \"waiting for other player.\" Moogie accepts and you have \"Duel commencing!\" Then you fight. From here there\'s two possibilities:
1. (You find yourself in the Death Realm). You were defeated by Moogie. Moogie was awarded 5000 tria and a claymore...
or
2. You have defeated Moogie. You were awarded a galkard. Congratulations!

Hmm, perhaps this could be incorporated in Arena duelling. It\'s not a bad idea. :)

P.S. Remember, there\'s no such thing as levels. ;)

O.o Ooooh! Like betting on your self... Great idea! But Moogie, If there aren\'t levels in PS, how will we know how strong somebody is?

Isn\'t the dueling already set up like that? I thought someone sayed you could do that already... Alot of other games have that too, so I might be wrong.

Duelling is currently \'ask someone to duel\' - \'someone accepts/declines duel\' - \'fight begins (or not)\'.

Shadowfalcon: I don\'t know the answer to that. I don\'t think it\'s possible to tell.

Hmm, thats interesting, no levels....
Maybe we could determine someone\'s experience or stength by rank, or maybe they could convey a percievable message by the type of armor/weapon they are wearing/wielding.

Well, ya win some ya lose some.... No one is ever always the strongest in the game and staking can determine that. It can also be a way for friends to frequently check on each other\'s superiority without risking being PKed (if staking is implemented everywhere instead of just the Battle Arena).

Would the devs be open to a system where other people could bet on fights? like having gladiators fighting, people betting, the gladiators taking shares of the profits, and such. This would create a whole new job market for those who would rather spend their time fighting instead of making weapons or healing people.

Hmmm actually having gladiators could be a useful way for anti-rp types to play without annoying the traditional PS community.

It really would sound interesting. But there is a chance that new players want to start killing right off the bat, so maybe someone in the starting area should greet them and ask if they would like to explore the world or get straight to the action(this warps them to the gladiator registration area). Though I really don\'t know what they will be doing.
I like taking things literally, going overboard is fun! Now... why do I keep getting odd looks?

speaking of gladiators.  I hope this wasn\'t mentioned.  People who broke the law have to participate in gladiator event against other law breakers.  They get a dagger and a shield and a weird looking helmet :D and start the fight.  They loose nothing, other than their honor (being watched by 200 other players while fighting naked in big arena ).   Well of course then, if you win, your sentence gets recuded..  Other players should be able to bet.. hmm that would be cool

OK, in addition what I explained in the original post, if I understand correctly you are saying we could have different ranked stakes?

That would be cool. When you challenge someone to a gladiator, if they accept, then a message could be sent to all the people in a nearby area saying that a gladiator fight was to take place between two certain people.

In the pop-up window we could have a link to a betting area where for five people put up bets on the combatants before the fight (if they want to bet). So it would be like a textbased auction area only you try to match someone\'s price instead of beating it, and whoever bets correctly recieves the money at the exact moment in which the battler wins.

Also, logging off could mean instant disqualification for a fighter. If someone who has placed a bet logs then it could just mean the bet is called off, unless it is within the last one fourth or whatever of the fight, then the bet continues (to prevent people from logging if they are about to lose a bet). Or we could have it so if the person who wins the bet logs (during the stake) the bet is called off but if they lose the bet remains.

Lastly, there\'s two ways to do this:
1. Glaidiator stakes are the only ones where you can place bets
2. In other types of stakes (like newbie and maybe lancing) the stakes and bets are higher or lower depending of the rank of the stake. E.g.- Gladiator you can stake anything. Newbie you can only stake values up to that of a broadsword.
