Helping fellows
« on: December 11, 2004, 12:30:22 am »
Supposing the existance of quicksand, monsters than grasp the people, jamming traps, and the like, the help of your fellows can be decisive for your survival.

This resort shouldn\'t be abused, but can be interesting for enhance the cooperative playing in some quests.

Aw, this thread seemed to have gotten a bit ignored... but it caught my interest (so to speak ;)) and sparked a sub-idea which could be added to this suggestion.

If you have monsters and enviroment that can trap you (temporarily, mind you), it would be kinda cool to have some extra fighting moves which roll two dueller\'s Strength stats against eachother, and if one person tries to grab the other, the game will decide whether he is strong enough to do so. Grabbing someone and throwing them to the ground could cause the victim a loss of combat-effectivness for a few seconds, due to getting unbalanced and disorientated.

I also thought it might be a nice idea for roleplaying, like an emote, but I can think of several distasteful ways that young males might abuse this to grab any girls who walk past. :P

Moogie, you just ruined the whole point of grabbing! lol jks.. we are all guys its not like we are hormone filled horny girl-thirsty (wtf?) males waiting for every chance we get to come in physical contact with a female. I mean thats what you go out for... but then again... are we? hehe jks we are all retarded to a certain extent.

Well yes helping out a fellow player would be helpful. Maybe they could make it so that a switch is turned on (in the games code) or a variable where if the person is in danger they are able to be pulled by
if  variable = false then it follows an

\"else
if variable Danger? = False then
(script for dissallowing grabbing.)\"

(Sorry about the dodgy sample, hope you get what I mean. It is VB script anyway but I am sure C++ works along the same lines.. I know basics about variables just diff Codes implement them different ways.)

Well sorry for confusing everyone hehe. :P

Helping others out of temporary effects would be good; it would be an advantage to traveling in pairs.... unless you both get stuck! Say you get caught in a bear trap (ZellGa?dess flinches... oowwee) your buddy could \"remove\" it from your leg, or in 1 minute it would rot away or something. This could also bring the ability of a thief or rouge type character or such, to detect traps, or a detect traps spell.
Throwing, tripping, pushing people to the ground would be good, very effecting when battling a horde of monsters. You could push one back, cut another, push another cut another and so on. Also it could increase sales of big soft beds..... :P

good idea Zell, pushing enemies would be perfect, you could have a certain chance of knocking someone to the ground, making the out of combat for a few seconds. but back on topic, Helping others is a must!

What would probably be good if when you pushed people, you couldn?t attack them and they couldn?t attack you, because you would be out of range, this would mean an ability to take on multiple opponents, and still have a chance of winning. Also this would save people constantly pushing people and stabbing them. = D
More ideas anyone?

It\'s obvious you have no idea what you\'re talking about. :P Trust me, I have enough experience of males in online games... ask any girl gamer and they\'ll tell you the same. Guys do this sort of thing very frequently. Infact we get so much unwanted attention that even other guys pretend to be female so they can get some free stuff. :P

Thankfully, though, they\'re not all that way. As nice as all the free stuff is, the attention does get a bit old after a while. There\'s only so much \"OMG u r a girl IRL??!?!11\" you can take before you lose faith in humanity...

Umm... I got sidetracked. :D About helping people out of traps, that\'s a great idea actually. After all, half the PS players are not going to have combat skills at all, so this is a good alternative for actually being a useful companion on a journey. :)

Yes that would be more effective, like you had to be in melee to push.. that would be much better.
