Updater & psclient, 3rd try.
« on: December 15, 2004, 05:03:40 am »
Another attempt at the updater is being made.  NOTE that there are some data file changes necessary that will not happen automatically!

1) Download http://laanx.fragnetics.com/updater_hidden/PS_Updater_MacOSX.dmg
2) Open it, copy updater.app and the two configuration files to your Planeshift folder.
3) Open data/shader in your Planeshift folder and change the names of all the files that start with \"or_lighting\" to start with \"std_lighting\"

Then run the updater and see if it works.  No guarantees or warrantees, expressed or implied!  It should download a new psclient, which should (again \"should\") be able to connect to the server.

Thanks,
Daniel

A new updater is available. Please check the link in previous post (edited) and the instructions.

Tell us the results.

Crashed with this dump:
dyld: /Users/mdiamond/Games/Planeshift3D/updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater can\'t open library: /sw/lib/libdl.0.dylib  (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

Fink searches for \"libdl\" and \"dylib\" turned up nothing.

After downloading dlcompat-shlib I go back to the previous error. The screen pops up, Crystal Space Application as the title, then a quit and the console\'s only showing this:

As I am getting married in slightly less than forty-eight hours, I will be unable to respond for quite a while.

Thank you for your patience, feel free to help each other out and find out what works!

Thanks,
Daniel

Chaos, I believe you are experiencing troubles similar to my own.

Have you looked in CrashDebugLog or whatever its called?  Check and tell me what, if anything, you see there.

congrats dude! I suppose i\'m waiting for the next round of testing once the final updater has been released, that way we can have a fresh tester who does not have any old updaters and such on his computer.

heh.
i get that the updater is newer than the server\'s version, and it wont download any updates.

UPDATE:

I run update, and it downloads repos.zip, but drops it on the root of my hard drive instead of /PlaneShift_CBV0.3.002_macosx/repos.zip like Console shows

Copy repos.zip to the correct path and rerunning update.app, now doesn\'t give me a newer version error, but Console shows:

Error loading registry file \'/repos/repository.xml\'
Couldn\'t download updateregistry from server!

I tried unzipping repos.zip to both:
/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.002_macosx/repos/repository.xml
and
/repos/repository.xml

but no change.

Currently I can\'t run psclient, either the last updated version, or by reverting back to initial install.

I\'m starting to wonder whether people are actually getting the right updater.. the \"downloading to root directory\" problem *should* be corrected, as should any dependency on libdl (I think!)

When it refers to \"/repos/repository.xml\" that is a \"virtual\" file path, it\'s supposed to find repos.zip and mount it to \"/repos/\" in the \"Virtual File System\"

People might want to compare vfs.cfg files.  You can also try launching from the command line like this:

cd /path/to/wherever/my/planeshift/stuff/is
./updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater

and see if results are any different.

Thanks!

My biggest question is why the updater is a crystal space app... :\\

But anyway, I digress. I redownloaded from the above link and completely deleted the 3 files before copying from the DMG. Still no luck.

P.S. I can\'t find a crash debug log... :\\
